Car Broke Down?

Yesterday while i was following my friend in a spec v sentra, we were cruising at around 100mph. After a little while my car started to skip and studder. Then the check engine light started to flash. The rpm's started to jump up and down 500 rpm's. when i started to slow down and turn off of the road my car shut off. When I popped my hood open to inspect the motor i could find nothing damaged that is visible. Before it shut off the temp. gauge was reading fine. I shut the hood and started the car it ran fine, I took it slow (65)to continue my journey to the mall the car did not act up again. This happened once, that was before i got my license and the car sat alot and it got water in the gas, but i ran the car for 1 hour before this happened and filled it up. What went wrong? Has anyone had this happen to them before?

it could have been a random misfire. I noticed one time when I started my car after not driving it for a while it ran really rough and the CE light for "random misfire cyl. #3" came on, I thought it would go away after a bit of driving but it didnt. I ended up turning the car off and restarting it (after clearing the code via DSMLink) and it ran perfect. Maybe thats what happened, if your CE light is still on take it to autozone and have them run the code

also, its best NOT to state you were breaking the law on this site; it seems to be frowned upon. You could just say something like "sustained high RPM." or something and you would be less likely to get bashed.
