ok so heres my situation. I have a 2600act clutch, and the tranny was recently rebuilt or its supposedly a "shep stage 4" but the guy i bought it from has no receipts of it. anyways, when im not moving, its near impossible to put it into first, or even go 2-1 to speed up the synchros. Its like the tranny just doesnt want to go into gear. I have to put alot of my body weight into the shift just to make it go in...... The peculiar thing is, when im moving, it shifts like a dream.... i can literally go from first to second, or second to third etc. with my fingers. What is the deal?!!?!?

i changed the tranny fluid yesterday and that did nothng.... where are the bell housing bolts?

They are the bolts that bolt the tranny to the motor. Look at the very far left side of the head they are straight down from there. Cant remember how many there are. Start where you front engine mount is there is one just to the left of that, and continue all the way around the tranny. Also check the slave cylinder. Happend to me once when that was loose.

I'd have to agree and say it sounds like a slave cylinder problem. Check your resivor for the slave cylinder. It's next to the brake booster on the firewall. Make sure it's full. If it's not there's a good chance that it has a leak and needs replaced. You may be able to bleed it out and get a few miles out of it before it goes completely out on you.

the reservoir is for the clutch master cylinder, but it ends up going to the slave after it passes thru the master. Have a friend pump the clutch while you look under the car and make sure the slave moves in and out. make sure you have fluid. If you don't, check for leaks on your master. Most likely it will soak your carpet where the clutch pedal is. If there is no leaks there, follow the lines all the way to the slave and check for leaks or kinks in hard lines. Check these things and the fore mentioned and let us know how it went. good luck.

thanks for all the help guys. one more thing that may help the diagnosis of this problem... when i go drive it in the morning after its been sitting, the gears are always fine. even first slides right in... but as i drive it through the day, it just gets worse and worse. does this still have to do with the slave? thanks alot

I've had problems with my clutch engaging into 1st if I'm at a stand still. It goes in but wants to grind a little. Before I really get into explaining it, I need to drive her again; we've been out of commission for a long time now. I think one more 10 hour day and I'll have it all back to gather.

I'll let you know if I still have a problem and what may help us out...

... I've had the entire car apart sense my last drive, so I may have solved the problem and not even know it. (engine rebiuld)

P.S. I think my slave was leaking too. Now that I think about it, I through a good one on from the junk yard a wile back; I can't seem to remember if the problem persisted.

Not much help tonight; sorry.

Yes, in a way. To me this also sounds like air entering the system, have you inspected the slave yet? There should be no fluid visible when you peel back the rubber boot that the rod goes through. It should be disengaging the clutch when the pedal is depressed.

Is there any fluid on the line going from the slave cylinder to the clutch reservoir?

Have you checked the transmission to motor mounting bolts yet? We need to know what you have and haven't done/checked also.
