have looked all through the forum and could not find my problem so i posted this. i can not go into ANY gear except reverse but that grinds like crazy. now some bolts were loose on the housing of the tranny so i tightened them up and then i thought i fixed it, but a few days ago i ran it kinda hard and noticed it was getting hard to put in gear so i go home the next day i can not get it into a gear. there is also a horrible rattle going on in there, not a grind but like something is bouncing around in there. so that day i was pushing the clutch up and down alot and hear a little click then it went into gear but when i had the clutch down there that noise was again like it was spinning and hitting stuff idk. i can shift when its off and if i try and start it in first gear it just jerks forward. SO obviously the clutch is not disengaging.

i know alot of information but i need to get to the bottom of this. my thought is bad release bearing???? PLEASE HELPPPPP WTF

sounds like your tranny is shot. probably blew out the syncros. if the clutch was bad then you couldnt go into reverse.

someone else told me that but i never had trouble shifting before no grinds or anything terrible. i think it has something to do with the fork tob flywheel clutch or any other bearing........

Check the oil in your tranny. See if it clean, black, or is metallic looking, since dsm's have brass syncros, the fluid will be extremely metallic looking if your syncros are bad.

Your bell housing bolts coming loose puts temendous stress on your clutch disk. I would suggest checking that first. If you're lucky you just have a broken disk and the tranny survived. I would not run it anymore if I were you; there could be springs from your disk flying around in there.

yea i tightened them all up and i think the damage has been done. i just put new gear oil in about a week ago and when i flushed it, it was black.

The reason you can't get it into any gear besides reverse is because reverse is the only gear that doesn't have syncros. All 1st through 5th has it. One thing it could be too and I just recently had this problem is the flywheel bolts backed out and are blocking the clutch from disengaging. ( that would happen if you did a engine or tranny swap sometime recently).

That rattle you hear does it go away when you press the clutch in? That rattle is probably the TOB (throw out bearing). If it is than all you need to do is drop the transmission and buy the TOB from the dealership for about 35. Buy an OEM on not a aftermarket. If you don't want to drop the transmission you could always try to replace the master and the slave cylinder to the clutch and bleed it to see if that works. It's the easiest thing to do and not have drop the tranny.

Are the dowel pins still in place on the transmission? They are used for alignment and are good to help you alight the tranny. I Would say it's the TOB for sure if you hear a funny noise in there.

thank you for the response, the clutch cylinder is brand new no leaks nothing and i completely bled the system. it did have an engine swap so you could be right with the flywheel bolts. the noise is there weather the clutch is down or not and if i rev it, it rattles even more. and it used to make a noise when i pushed the clutch down aswell. the more i pushed it down the louder it got.

I'll just mention a few things that I have heard go wrong with the clutches on these cars. For one I know that sometimes the clutch forks will get bent when using a high pressure clutch.

Also if the master cylinder has recently been replaced there can be issues getting the system completely bled. It usually requires vacuum and pressure bleeding back and forth from the slave cylinder side.

Another possibility is the clutch pedal linkage under the dash may have some play in it which is not allowing you to get a full stroke on the MC.

Or your TOB is failing and basically coming apart inside the bell housing.

Just a few suggestions.

i bled the system for 2 hours and im pretty sure i did it right. but i dont think that would cause the rattle in the transmission

if you do the TOB then I would recommend replacing the fork as well. There's a reason the DSM shops will have one or two on hand.

I did mine in 8 hours. I dropped the transmisison and put it back in. But you need a cherry picker so you can put it back in. The hardest part is getting back in because you can't drop it down from the top you have to put it in from the bottom.
How good are you at working on your car now? I did a motor swap in mine if you can do that you can drop the transmission. You need to pull the axles out unbolt 4 transmission bolts, remove the clutch slave cylinder and undo the transmission mount.

follow the vfaq that tells you how to do a clutch replacement that will give you step by step instructions on how to drop the transmission

im decent with cars but i did not swap the engine haha. i also do not have any kind of cherry picker. maybe a jack would help!? ha idk what im going to do

Well you have to put the car on jack stands and take out from the bottom. But when you put it back in basically would have to bench press it into place LOL which would be very uncomfortable dont you think? If you can't borrow a cherry picker from someone maybe you should take it to a shop. It's really not hard to drop the tranny and if you replace the TOB that's cake.

UPDATE

ok i just started it today for the first time and now there isnt much noise at all and it goes into gear easily WTF. what could cause this because i know its gonna f up again....

i hope its just the tob you seem pretty definate which is good because thats what i came here for. thanks alot but ill still show you the video so you can hear it.

deffinately going with the OEM tob from now on!!!

It is for sure the TOB especially since you pust the clutch in and it quiets down. While you have the transmission out check your clutch, flywheel and pressure plate too. It's very loud I haven't heard one that loud but i'm still pretty sure

i think its multiple issues honestly haha i think the fork may be bent too idk and i bet the pressure plate is messed up too. should i just go with oem for everything? because i know all this stuff has about 900 miles on them its a street disk with a act flywheel.
