So, yeah. Only days after getting my baby up and running, it's down yet again. This time it's worse. What's the tell-tale, without a doubt, sure way to know I spun a bearing¿ was heading to pick up a friend, got there, just rev'd the engine once, not hard at all, and when I went into reverse, all I got was a really bad sound like something loose inside the engine. I'm now leaking a little oil from the oil pump, and cyl 3 has an oil leak too. I pulled the valve cover to find nothing unusual, which is how I looked at the pistons, through spark plug wells. I'm lost on this one. Never spun a bearing or had anything loose inside an engine before.. :idontknow:

Well my car is back in the garage torn apart. Got plenty of light stands so i haven't killed my battery. It's actually sitting on the floor out of use. I will be pulling the block back out yet again. Since I'm replacing the front case, I'm just gonna install he balance shaft eliminator kit I bought last month. My engine stand will see use again this weekend for this. Ordering my new parts tomorrow and should have them by Tuesday next week. Thanks for the info.

Good luck, and double check your work before sealing a component in behind a casing or belt gaurd. It always sucks to have to disassemble something you just put back together because you forgot to torque something... I feel your pain man. I have probably spent more time with my car than my family this year because of shit breaking.... Or me having to make it better, stronger, faster!... Which always takes 3 times longer than you think it will. Just plan ahead, get some sleep beforehand, and concentrate on each step. I have to tell myself to do this often, or I screw stuff up too.

Yeah. I need to rethink all the sleeping part. I work 10 hours a day 6 days a week and still force myself to work on my car. Been holding off though since it broke down again. I had to redo a few things a few times because of my stubbornness to finish the car. Not repeating it this time.

I pulled my engine and transmission out a little while ago and started tearing down the front case to prep everything for my new parts I ordered today. In the process of all this, I broke a small chunk off my damn crank sprocket...:ohdamn: and I've been searching on JNZTuning for a replacement, but it'll only give me parts for the 4g64 engine. Are the sprockets between it and the 4g63 the same since these 2 short blocks are nearly the same?

Gear tooth wise, I don't think they are different. Unless the tooth size is different, the 2.4 I just looked at had the same number of teeth.

The main question is how big of a chunk? If it is just a little chip, you can file it back smooth and probably be just fine. If it is a big chunk, yea, best to go find another one.

Yeah, I would, but its impossible to find a turbo DSM in any salvage yard here, more so with the engine still sitting in the car. Might check out one of the graveyards I see on here at times though.

I have the same problem. There are no turbo DSM's to found in any junkyards within 150 miles of where I live. I have found chunks of a few, never with an engine. Best to probably just order it or get someone who is parting out a ruined motor to sell you one.

I got my new bearings on Friday so I decided to remove the pistons, rods, and crank over the weekend. Rod bearings looked ok, but still looked like they had wear spots except for the cylinder 2 & 3 bearing halts attached to the rods themselves. Those 2 had a few gouges in them. The crank looked fine though, no gouges or wear marks. The main bearings were the same condition minus gouging. Gonna take the block to a machine shop on payday to get decked and hot tanked. Even though the coolant that came out was fresh and shoulda been still bright green, it was a dingy brownish-green, so I think the clog I might have is in the water journals. Will take the head to get cleaned and decked as well.

Got the block stripped bare and prepped for the machine shop. Taking it and the head in on Wednesday to get cleaned and decked. Gonna get some upgraded rods and pistons next month, so the block will go back to get bored out .020 over.

Lol! Kinda ironic!

Being that those of us who get email with the original message you sent... :notgood:
It's not a contest to show who knows the most. We are trying to help.

Lol. I tried to help the kid but he got all pissy cause I called his friend dumb for saying the turbo was the issue..,which than turned into him running his mouth. Good thing you decided to try and call me out too!

I'm not trying to attack you man, just making a point that maybe you need to make an attitude adjustment. I have been called a dumbass on here too for my advice (both right and wrong), no point in getting pissed about it. It's just the internet, nothing personal.

Bud I couldn't be further from pissed! Lol. I can't help but find this amusing. I agree with what you say about the Internet and not talking things personal. The op needs to listen to your advice. After all, the whole thing started cause he got pissy about me calling his friend a idiot. Lol. I WAS in fact attempting to help, but some people can't take a little brashness.

If you think its the rod knocking, pull that plug wire and start the engine. With spark removed there won't be power to make the rod audible. I would also guess it could be a loose flywheel as I've has that happen before, sounded like a rod hanging out of the block a d just like you, it started on one free rev

Well, I just saw this, kind of late, but oh well. Before this is viewed as an attack toward you, don't think that, it's not. Not toward you, or anything you've said... positive or negative.

Perhaps I did get a little pissy with you. However, the attitude taken toward me was ill-placed, and highly unappreciated. Your first reply started with this, which completely made me ignore anything you said in a form of actual help. What you said about my friend, I could have let go, but since you had assumed I was taking his advice and was inexperienced, just set things off further. I had mentioned that he asked about the turbo, and that I told him it wasn't. I knew from the start it had nothing to do with my turbo. Then the 'running my mouth' comment didn't help the situation. I never ran my mouth, just simply defended myself. And if I insulted you with the whole grammar thing, well I can't take it back. It's a habit to do that when people piss me off. This car isn't my first DSM rodeo, and I already had a basic idea of what was going on, but it helps to have the input from others that offer up good advice. I've learned over the years that if I stress out over things for too long, I tend to over-look the obvious and end up taking longer to finish the task, so that's why I reached out for help. I was taking the advice given by those who had previously posted with help.

I'm sure you can offer some good insight, and any that may be offered in the future would be welcomed, so long as I'm not attacked and insulted based on assumptions. I can take criticism pretty well, but when I'm already in the worst of moods, there's no luck.

So in closing to this frustrating argument, I would like to at least say thanks for the positive comments you had made in the beginning, and if you have more in the future, feel free to offer.

Also would like to say thanks H@xtGSX & DSM1G90 for offering their support during this issue.
