Hi i'm new to the DSM world and recently bought a 1995 Eagle Talon with a completely rebuilt motor for 2250 and i meant completly rebuilt. the problem is that the guy left the block and tranny out as he started a new project car, Dang Trans Am. My problem is that he lost the what i believe to be a alignment pin right below the starter. Well i ordered one and also a block bolt to try there. He claimed that it was a stud. But upon tighting down the transmission to the engine the bottom by the fly wheel pulled away from the motor about 2 inches. Is that because i don't have that pin or does the starter pull it together(surely not.). I hope someone can help. Again i a m waiting on the alignment oin or bolt whichever goes there and a lower guard the protects the bottom edge of the fly wheel. Please help as i want this car going by christmas to give to my girlfriend as a present.

Sounds like maybe you don't have the tranny input shaft aligned with the clutch properly have had similar problems with old small block chevy's

Yea, if the clutch was aligned with teh alignment tool it should go ( don't use bbolts to "pul or force" them together) Ro get the 5 dollar mistu alignment tool from o'reilly or autzon/napa. re align it and start trying again. IMHO, these are some of the toughest bastards to align that i've ever put it. Porsche 944 trannies are hell ( if you ever see one , think of if you were pulling it and get back to me :) )
I get the motor in from the top and then bolt it to it's front (timing gear mount), then with all the passenger side suspension out of the way, i lay on my back. Put my feet on the tranny and shake and push like hell. About one out 5-6 attemps and it's perfectly on. Good luck, they aren't fun by any means, i can pul the motor faster than i can install the tranny LOL

Are you talking about the transmission alignment dowel pins? There should be 2 of them - on in the front part of the tranny and one in the back. These help seat and guide the tranny onto the block.

Get a clutch alignment tool and make sure your clutch is lined up right. Make sure you have the 2 dowel pins in. And there are no studs - all bolts. It might take you a little while to line up the tranny perfectly, but make sure it is before you start bolting it down.

hmmm.......is ## problem the pins? or you cant get the tranny to touch the motor???? if its the touching motor problem, you should be able to push the tranny right against the motor then just put the bellhousing bolts in fairly easily.....however (I had this Problem) if the tranny isnt going against he motor, double check that the clutch slides over the output shaft on the tranny fairly easily....(mine wouldnt slide at all, i had to file it down)

i hope that helps

thanks guys. the problem is for one of you who asked is that the top i think its three bolts go on great but the bottom edge by the flywheel pulled away. I will pick up that alignment tool and try again i got the motor suspended in the air. any tips on how to attach the tranny while motor is "swinging"? i should have the alignment bolts this week hopefully by wednesday but we are suspposed to be getting hit with a winter storm here. and i'm working in a carport. wish my garage was cleared out and i had a cherry picker. LOL. again thanks guys and if you can help more i'd appreciate it. like with the alignment process and such.

i have the motor out of the car, bought it that way, guy got bored with the talon and bought a trans am after he and his wife divorced. the motor is suspended from thee beams of my car port. i live in the country so it looks normal LOL. but i dont have a cherry picker and didn't want to have to find a way to pick it up again if i put it on the ground.

yeah i have it secured pretty well tied up and everything with an old recliner below so if it falls it will be caught. it is gonna work pretty well if i manage to get the tranny connected.:|

i was looking and i have the top bolts tightened and everything looks good but on what would be the drivers side the bottom has pulled apart some and i'm missing a device there it belongs in the threaded hole right below the starter and right above where the cv shaft connects. if you can help please do so

i pulled the tranny off and the piece i am missing is a stud of a sort that is smaller on the motor side and a little larger on the transmisson side.. please help

There is a bolt going in from the driver's side in the rear (by the axle). It is the smallest/thinnest of all the bolts. I know that bolt likes to give a lot of people trouble as it also has a sleeve on the transmission that goes into the block.

Stop playing around and get a clutch alignment tool to check to see if its correct and put that damn tranny in. I just put my tranny in a week ago and there was no clearance issue except that my engine is in the car so you know I was cursing for hours. It goes on the shaft then you turn it till the all the holes are aligned especially the one on the lower right hand corner near the mount bracket. If you can't get it to fit there are only three possible problems.

1. You have the wrong tranny
2. Your clutch is not aligned
3. You don't have the tranny in neutral (ding ding ding ding), thats when the right lever is in the middle and the left on moves right and left.

i have it on now manually aligned it no big problem still waiting on the little stud part number per dodge md174184. the hole is 8mm coarse thread on the transmisson side and 10mm fine thread on the motor side.

When you say manually aligned do you mean without alignment tool? If yes just unbolt it and wait for the tool because you don't want to redo that poject trust me.
