2G Can use this air to oil cooler on my 6 bolt?

As long as the kit comes with the right size threaded adapter then it will work. Id go with a different core though. Somewhere along a tube n fin design.imo

I dont see how any oil cooler can hurt. It seems like a good product. I wouldnt mount a fan on it or anything, if you run this car at all in the winter keep that in mind, you dont want the oil too cold ever. Though that is unlikely for sure. Id say go for it. Do you need additional oil cooling? Doing some road race type driving? If so, a larger oil capacity may help too.

I bought this same Hayden oil cooler kit from Summit Racing. Bad idea, simply because the threaded adapter sits out a little bit farther than the stock sandwich adapter did. So the oil filter runs out of threads before the filter seats against the supplied sandwich adapter.
Now what do they make a different threaded adapter? Do I have to buy a different sandwich adapter? If I had a giant thread die I could cut 2 or 3 new threads in the shaft. But I don't have one that big.
I called Hayden and got an Indian guy that I could not understand very well. He had no clue what I was talking about. Frustrated now...:aha:

If you want or need an oil cooler my advice would be to piece together a kit yourself with a Setrab oil cooler, AN fittings, and braided stainless line.

Or a cheaper alternative would be to track down an OEM tranny cooler from an auto Diamante or any Mitsubishi car that had one not built into the radiator (I don't know offhand which cars exactly had this, I found mine on a Diamante - or you could just use an OEM 1G oil cooler, if you can find one), then piece together your kit with AN fittings and braided line.

Good points made above, but here are some things to consider.

Since you have a 6 bolt, you have the option to use a 90's style cooler. It is the same method as this cooler with some advantages.

With this cooler, you will ad an additional gasket. I dont like that idea, I rather not add a way for oil to potentially leak. This sandwich plate design also pushes the oil filter closer to the downpipe, more heat and harder to get off when the time comes to change the oil. The 90's style housing also has a thermostat in it designed to reroute the oil to the cooler when it becomes too hot, this does not exist with the Hayden oil cooler.

all these reasons warrant a 90 style cooler in my head.

I also agree very strongly with this point. I didn't look closely at the cooler kit in question, just glanced at it, so I didn't notice that it used a sandwich plate. I also recommend that you use a 90 style OFH that is equipped with a thermostat. I have a cooler and an OFH that I can sell to you if you want to go that route. PM me if you're interested.

I appreciate everyone's advice. Yea think I'm going to use a 90 style OFH as suggested. I have way to much money and time in this motor to take any chances. Damn that means I'm going to have to port the new OFH. And I did such a good job on this one! :toobad:
Oh well.
Hey one more question guys. When you say 90's OFH you do mean 03/89-06/90 right? Because my current OFH was used from 06/90-04/92. Just want to be sure. In the picture on extreme psi you can definetly see the brass thermal valve that must be what redirects the oil. Wait I think I just answered my own question. Hey thanks again for the help everyone.
Oh and thanks for the OFH offer to. I'll be in touch if I caint get one locally...
