2G switching to air oil cooler

Basically, I'm getting sick of the rubber lines going to the oil cooler failing unexpectedly. Last night, it took me 3 hours to do an oil change due to some unexpected repairs I had to make. After I took off the old oil filter, I couldn't get the new one on (larger oil filter from 90-91). The clamp on the hose on the top fitting of the oil cooler was in the way, and when I tried to loosen the clamp to rotate/move it, coolant started leaking out. Not to mention that the hose was swollen to like twice the size it should be. Long story short, I ended up with a torn hose and a huge unexpected mess. I replaced it temporarily with some hose I had laying around, but the problem is the stock one has a bend that takes it away from the heatshield/downpipe. I covered the hose I have on there now with heatwrap (temporarily) because it's right next to the heatshield. The only good thing is I caught it before it left me stranded somewhere, kind of like when the hose at the bottom fitting slowly leaked coolant on the highway during what was supposed to be a 4.5 hour road trip.

Anyway, instead of just replacing that hose with an OEM one (if they still make it), I was thinking of getting a Derale Sandwich Adapter (part #15702) or Evo OFH, and a small air cooler (maybe just an OEM unit from the 90-91). My only concern is how much of a drop in oil pressure it may cause. I've read several threads throughout the years, and everyone talks about how much it improves/decreased oil temps, but no mention about any change in oil pressure.

I honestly don't know I have an external air oil cooler on my eclipse and never gave me problems besides it smoking a lot at the moment.

I would imagine the pressure drop to be similar to the difference between a water to air intercooler core and an air to air core. The air to air has much more pressure drop on it than the water to air core does.

I'm not stating this as fact but it's a comparison that may be worth making.

Pressure drop from an oil cooler is least of your worries. Extreme heat is your enemy. Turbos get red-hot, and the oil-cooled turbo-bearing-shaft is directly connected to your red-hot turbine wheel.

Think about clearances between your crank-shaft & bearings... in series with your oil cooler... sleeve-bearings have much smaller passages than oil-coolers. Worried about viscous losses in your oil system?... search for the many EXTREEMELY simple grinding operations to improve oil flow. Synthetic oil maintains oil-film at lower viscosity.... lower viscosity has less pressure drop. You have many options for reducing pressure loss... very few options to keep oil cool.

Maslow's hierarchy of needs.... Cool your oil...Cool it. (spoken like Scotts "feed your lawn...feed it." )

^^^ couldn't agree more, op the Evo 8-9 oil coolers are also a good option.
