Can the upper alternator bracket be adjusted

I am trying to replace my alternator and have hit a snag . Aside from taking almost a half hour to get the bottom bolt half way in I cannot get the top bolt to line up at all the opening is hitting along the bottom rail of the tensioner arm . Can this arm be adjusted slightly without effecting anything or is there just something I'm missing ?

ETA: This is on a 2g gst

I've changed probly 100 or more alternators in the past and have never had so much trouble with one any help here would appreciated

What year car and model? If it is a stock alt., should drop right in.

96 GST Spyder . I got the alt from autozone compared it to the old one and they seemed identical

Make sure you dont the little block upside down. There should be no tweaking of anything necessary.

The blocks not the problem I cant get it inline with the slot in the rail . Maybe its just cause I haven't gotten the back end of the bottom bolt lined up ? I cant really try anything right now so just speculating since its raining and I don't have a carport or garage

Did you loosen the bolt holding the upper bracket and try to adjust it? It's possible that you moved the upper bracket while removing the old alternator. That upper bracket will rotate up and down enough to cause misalignment.

I haven't loosened it . But I'll give it a look once this rains done

Alright finally got a chance to get back in there the bracket did move its loose as hell guessing the guy who did the timing belt on it didn't torque it down enough . Thanks for the help guys hopefully I can get this thing back together today
