I checked and got the part number MD136839 for an alternator for a 90 GSX. Can somebody confirm it? And where would be a good place to order one without having to send in a core exchange (I live outside the US so the cost of shipping my damaged alternator there would offset the cost of buying it without the core exchange).

Many thanks.

I guess my memory isn't as good as it could be.

CAPS shows all the 1G US turbo cars using the same 75A alternator MD136839 as you looked up.

I wouldn't use the 65A alternator MB136838 except as a source for a housing but it should just bolt up.

The Galant VR4 and several of the other DOHC 4G63 Galants used the 90A MD149750 alternator.

Your best bet, get it from the dealer. The dealer will provide you the right part without having a core charge. It will be more expensive but A) It will work and B) It will be the right part.

Mitsu never sold GSX's in here, just +92 GS's, so when I come into the dealer, they would be like "WTF" when I ask them parts for a turbo car. :sosad:

Find a place that rebuilds alternators. They can get the parts to fix yours up without you having to explain to the dealership what you want and have them order it.

If you have to order a whole alternator get the 90A one that was used on the Canada cars.
It will swap right in. IIRC the '90s had the wimpy 65A alternators on all the turbos.

The problem is, the housing was cracked, and the cost of parts would be almost the same as buying a new alternator.

The previous owner said he had trouble using the alternators from 92-94 GS's that are commonly found in here. That's why I was looking for the turbo 75 amp alternator.

Are you sure I could use the 65 amp alternator?

Also, where would be a good place to buy online? Thanks for all your replies guys.

CAPS is some online parts supplier or is just a system for checking up part numbers? Sorry for my ignorance.

And it seems like I will be ordering the MD136839 75amps alternator. Many thanks for your input.

I forgot to say this in your other thread but most places dont charge for your core if you buy a new, non-reman alternator.

Also, since your housing is damaged I doubt it would be accepted as a core anyway.

I had my Bumper to Bumper guy look up the Highest Amp Mitsu Alternator that would fit a 1G:

- Max amperage 121 amps

- 100 amps at 3000rpm

- Max 1548 watts

- Manufacturer Ampere - Ampere P/N 21491

- Cost was about $150.00

- I run a 1 Farad Cap too with an El-Cheapo Battery that pushes a 500 Watt Sony Amp & head Unit no problems - no dimming, etc.

I put it on Car Ramps & come from underneath so no need to remove Fan - It's still a PITA...

Make sure you have NO Power Steering Fluid leaks dripping on your Alt - that will kill the Voltage Regulator in a Hearbeat & can toast your ECU...
