For some crazy reason, I just got a bad exhaust leak, and figured the 10mm bolt that I had drilled/tapped on the pass side end bolt has stripped out, now I need to re-tap thread it again with a bigger stud than a 10mm, but do not want to hit a water or oil pocket etc..

Any ideas?????

At this point you may want to consider having the hole Tig welded up, so that you can start over with either the 8mm or 10mm stud.

Good question. I have a junk head i'm going to drill out and see just how big one can go. I'll get back to ya.

I drilled and tap and helicoiled my head in three different locations without any problems using 12mm allen socketed stainless steel bolts. I didn't go in very far, probably 5 threads deep. Works perfectly.

Thanks for all the advise, I think I am going to tap it for 7/16ths course thread studs, they are a little smaller than the 12mm but much bigger than the 10mm, and the tread look deeper and stronger. I am doing in the morn. Thanks Again

*****FOLLOW UP****** I ended up re-taping all the studs with 7/16 1.25 course thread, they are smaller than 12mm with a much more stronger thread bite(these suckers will never strip or bust loose again. Rememeber the middle bottom stud goes right into the head,( watch the metal shavings on that one, I only went in about half way). But they did all fit with no problems .

If drilled and tapped correctly a 10mm fine thread stud would work just as well and not to mention not having to use both metric and sae tools on your car.
