Can anyone give me any general pricing on some engine work?

I understand i will probably catch hell for this but theres only one way to learn. Ive been saving my money all summer to turbo my car, and with me being an irresponsible kid i did not want to accept the fact that building the motor would be the best option before wasting money on a turbo. Well ive finally accepted it and would like some basic info on pricing, and performance/dollar ratio. Ive done some searching its just an internet full of info is somewhat overwelming at first. But to the point i have 2000-2500 dollars to build the inside of my motor. I know i will need forged rods and pistons, but i want to get as much power-potential as i can for my money. So does anyone have any recomendations for where i should invest my money? I dont plan to have any big names do machine work or anything like that.. just local shop work. I work with a certified mechanic I just thought maybe someone had some more dsm related info.. I'm also debating wether I should stroke or just go forged and turbo. Any opinions are welcome.
