Ok i just bought a '98 GSX and I gotta swap the motor due to crank walk. After looking at the donor motor (the one i have from my old '95 GST). I noticed the camshaft position sensors are mounted in different locations. The GST's is on the drivers side of the valve cover mounted to the cam gear, the GSX's is on the passenger side of the valve cover(mounted like a 1G). I wanna know witch one do i use? Or does it even matter?

thanx!

It matters.

Part of it depends on what ECU your going to run and part is the modifications required to either put the early 2G sensors into the wiring of the late 2G or the work required to mount the late sensors on the early block. If you're planning on doing any work inside the engine before the swap putting the late head on the early motor might be a simple solution ot the problems.

If the block is the only thing that is bad just use the 98 head on the 95 block. That way you don't have to modify anything and you avoid headaches. Great time for a MLS headgasket and some ARP head studs. Good luck.

I have a similar problem going. I am having to replace my head because I bent the valves in my 97 motor and went ahead and bought a head with good valves. Well I get it home and find out its a 95 head and the sensors are in different places. I saw what was suggested above but what I need is for an explanation on how to swap over the sensor from my 97 head to the 95 head.
