ok so... i want to do a cam upgrade but i do not want to go to much.. what i want is somthing that i will notice a diff and will not hurt the engine to much! any ideas ?

For street or track? Street 264, but for track 272 is what most people run.

We could use a little more information though if you could help us out.

HKS 264 if its a daily driver (DD). HKS 272 if its for track use. Or, a combination 264/272 is also possible. If you plan on running 272's or higher, new valve springs and retainers are recommended. Listen to GRAVEDIGGER, if this is your first modification on a stock engine, you need other modifications first before changing cams.

thanks for all the info.. as of right now iv not had the time to fill out my profile ( still spending money ) but here is a quick run down on my tsi atm iv got a FMIC hks bov 3" apexi all the way back. evo lll 16g ported waste gate, so i was wanting to upgrade the cams next ?

Get a tuning program and fuel mods first. Hopefully you aren't boosting over 15 psi right now...

I would get cams after you get something to tune with and upgrade the fuel system. I don't think cams will benefit at 14 pounds of boost.

I don't know how you push 14 psi boost with a EvoIII-16G & stock injectors? I couldn't go over 10-12 psi or 6200 rpm (injector idc's @ 104%) with mine until I picked up some FIC 750cc injectors. Are you logging? I guarantee if you are you'll find that poor thing is running lean & knocking above 6200rpm. Hell, I even have tuning software to get as much out of the stock injectors as I could. I have just gone through this over the past 2 weeks & even now with the 750's I can only go to 15-16.5 psi because the stock rewired pump runs out of fuel, ordering a 190 lph now.
Good luck but it sounds like you need tuning software & logging equipment before you even waste money on cams or any other mods.

im boosting 14psi atm

Use proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation when posting in our Tech Forums - don't use texting/instant messaging lingo here. This isn't an English class, but we demand that you at least make an attempt or your posts will be deleted. Internet Explorer users should download IEspell or just use Firefox since it has spell check built-in.

Get DSMLink and some fuel mods, you won't even be able to use the performance of the cams until you have something to tune them with. A SAFC will only help compensate for larger injectors etc, everyone will highly recommend DSMLink or Ecmlink v3 or lite.

Yes DSMlink is one of the MOST important modification you can make. It will help a car at any level of modification.

i do have injectors, not sure what ones as my dad put them in and did most of the work to my car. i just told him about DSMLink and he said he will look into it! thanks for all the great info!

It's ECMLink

ECMTuning, Inc.

You need an EPROM ECU to use it. Of course, I have no idea what year car you have as you didn't fill it out. If you have a 1g there are other options as well besides ECMLink.

Also, why the hell did he put in bigger injectors without tuning software to adjust for the extra fuel. You will just run extremly rich. Do some research and follow the upgrade path before you throw anything else at it.

Go to DSMLINK and see where it takes you :thumb: DSMlink has been its name for years. I'll keep calling it what it was.

While these guys bicker about the name of ecmlink/dsmlink go check out DS-MAP if you have a 1G. The software is called Jackal and is speed density based. The software is FREE & you will only need a "Ostrich" chip emulator ($175), intake air temp sensor ($25) & 3bar map sensor ($50) along with the same things needed for ecmlink/dsmlink (wideband O2 for tuning, socketed eprom). So for approx. $250 you have essentially a stand-alone engine management:thumb: vs. $550 for software alone.
It also has a built in logging program for tuning as well.
I just switched over to this a month ago and it is truely an AWESOME tuning system. Throttle response is insane, turbo spool up is extremely quick, fuel economy greatly improved and the engine has NEVER ran this good or smooth.
The DS-Map community is there to walk you through (if needed) & very knowledgable. A great site.
Just my 2 cents, good luck & have fun with your DSM.

This entire thread cracks me up.

jrohner and liquidx said it best...given that you haven't filled out your profile so we have no idea what you have and don't have, I'm guessing that you are a LONG way from worrying about a cam upgrade. You need to get your fuel and way of tuning upgraded before you even consider a cam upgrade.

Here's an idea... start with this:

1G upgrade path

well seeing how my car is not a 1g.. not sure that will help, its a 95 talon tsi as my sig says.. thanks for all the advise from the ppl that have giving it as for the flames sure why not. so what should i do for my 2g management ?

Look at VFAQ Site - Visual Frequently Answered Questions. Alot of help there. Also the tech page on this website. Tech Guide - DSMtuners

Management is up to you SAFC is the bottom of the barrel management wise, DS-Map works if you have a 1g but you DON'T like someone suggested so ignore that, DSMlink also works well and is what I personally use, and there are other standalone systems that cost more and have a much larger learning curve, not a place to start as a beginner.

Your signature shows both a 1G and a 2G, with no details on either one in your profile. So here you go...

well i push 12 psi on a 97 eclipse gst with evo 3 turbo, turbo back 3 inch exhaust system, walbro 255 fuel pump with stock injectors, injen intake, b&m fpr set to 43psi, with a 1g swap so im pretty sure its possible
