so i bought a new engine and it didnt come with a cam gear sensor i was told my old one from motor that was in it before will work..so get it all tore apart and in car and goin to put the sensor in and it dont fit at all..any solotions on what to do im so lost

What style CAS do you have? Is it on the drivers side or passenger side of the motor? And what kind of "new motor" did you buy?

If it goes on the passenger side it should bolt up, but depending on what cams you have you may need to drill + tap to fit the bolt (if it's a 97+).

If it's a 95-96 CAS is goes on the driver side and there will be a plug you have to knock out. This is honestly a bad way to go, most people will tell you to upgrade to a 1g CAS.

I personally have a 90 CAS. It's working for me, but everybody will recommend a Black Top 91-94.

my talon is a 97 and i put a 7 bolt 4g63 in it..and if u look at my pics u can see the new motor

You have 1 photo upload -- your profile pic.

Did you look at the thread I showed you? And you never answered my question about where your stock CAS was.

7 bolt 4G63's could be from any years ranging from 92 to 99. And there were two different CAS placements including 5 different types of CAS'.

Please read the link I posted above. It should answer all your questions if you pay attention to the pictures.

I am going to assume you have a 97 CAS. Is there a plug in the passenger side of the motor where it should go? If so, rip that plug out (like it says in the link!) and install your old CAS. I am not sure if you have to drill and tap your cams though. You will know for sure if you can't thread the bolt in.

Make sure you align it so it isn't 180* out.

A 1g cam angle sensor is in no way an upgrade over either 2g sensor. The only reason that people use the 1g sensor so much on 2g's is because they are either using a 6 bolt block, or a 6 bolt head or both.

Well assuming from what you have said that the cas wont fit from a 97 to this new 7 bolt, you have a 95-96 engine. Your cas will still work, you just have to remove the rubber plug on the passenger side of the engine where the cas goes. Make sure its not 180* out when you install it.:thumb:

Read that link that was mentioned above and you will be set, if all goes well you should have that car runing in 10 mins tops.

If he bought a 95-96 engine than the cam will not have the bolt hole in it for the sensor trigger to bolt to. The best option would be to pull the timing belt off, pull the valve cover and swap in the intake cam from the old engine. You will have to take the cam out anyway to drill and tap it, it would be much easier to just swap in the right cam and be done with it.

I have read on countless threads to ditch the 95 CAS, and the reason the 1G is recommended is because it acts as the CPS as well instead of having two independent sensors, which is nice for people with lightweight flywheels.

Also you don't have to remove your intake cam to drill and re-tap if switching to a 1G.

Granted the downside is the fact that ignition timing must be timed and a custom harness must be made for it to work.

So might not be an upgrade, just more of an easier and less time consuming way to switch over.

Lightweight flywheels? What does that have to do with anything? The 95 cam and crank sensor setup send's a more clean signal than even a black top 1g sensor. Try to run a 1g cas on a 95-96 car without dsmlink or the 10k potentiometer mod and tell me how you like the random misfires. Again, the 1g cas is NOT an upgrade in anyway. It is only something that people do when they use a 6 bolt head that doesn't have provisions to mount the sensor, or a 6 bolt block that doesn't have the provision for the crank sensor on the front case.

And without swapping the injector wires at the ecu? Yeah no kidding it is going to run terribly. He has a 97 ecu, he can run a 1G CAS just fine.

my cps began going out after i got a lightweight flywheel, there are many threads on this on here about people that get lwfw's and cant cruise between 70 and 80 or else the car will go into like a two cylinder mode, restart the car and it works, the reason this is happening is that the sensor has not failed completely but is on its way out, the light weight flywheel picks up the increased harmonics from the lwfw and sets it off. The sensor can be going bad all the time without it being completely off. A 1g cas is a simple way to replace the cps and cas in one false swoop.
