cam bolt removal

I ordered a 1g MT Turbo head for my built 6-bolt shortblock and when it arrived, the exhaust cam gear was shattered..stupid UPS. I filed an insurance claim, but I doubt I'll get anything. Anyways, I went to the junkyard to find a new gear and for the life of me, I can't get that bolt off. I locked vice grips on the junkyard cam one so that it would stop rotating, but it ended up stripping 3 of my 17mm sockets. I did a search, but all the threads said the timing belt should be on, so you can just lock the crank. On my head, I don't wanna mess up the cam with vice grips, and there is only a bit of metal around the bolt itself. Any ideas please?

put a wrench on the cam?

use a 17mm socket with a breaker bar and a 1ft pipe over the end of your breaker bar.. that way you have more leverage. you would be supprised how much just a few more inches of leverage can get you.

Alright, I put vice grips on the camshaft and used a 17mm socket with a 12'' breaker bar and I still can't get those damn bolts off. BTW, are they reverse thread or not? Maybe thats the problem.

I guess I could try an impact gun, see what that does.

they arent reverse threads. Mine were on pretty tight ended up using a impact gun and a wrench. Came off in 2 seconds.
