So I when to barnes and noble to get my monthyl D SPORT and there is a parts catalog in it to. In the catalog there is a BRIAN CROWER add. FREE titanium retainers with purchase of cams and springs it is a coupon by the way. I go to there web site and there prices are really reasonable.

They have two cams the usual 272/272 or 280/280 what cams should I get. Will I get more power with the 280s? I have a stage three chip a maft and an afc, Also I am doing a full motor rebuild, wisco, scat rods stock crank, and ported head, 6 bolt motor. I will also get the springs and retainers. I see that most people use hks 264/272 and why is that.

Any info or sharing of knowlege would be greatly appricated, on the company it self or there product. I am a complete noob to the cam stuff. This is a super good deal and will cost like less than 400 bucks for the whole top end. That is unreal!WTF

I think I am going to get them I will purchase them tomorro, you cant beat aftermarket cams springs and t retainers for 400 bucks.

Just noe sure on what cams the 272s or 280s.

Will I still have good everyday driving with the 280s (stop light to stop light in slow traffic, or will it feel slow and laggy like my current phantom knock situation) or would the 272s be a better option for the tuning noobie.

First off whos cames are they HKS or regrinds? Personally I would only mess with HKS, FP or comp cams. If they are a name brand cam then yea I would be all over that too, but look into it deeper. I would stick with the 272 type cam will be a much better street cam.

I talked to Brain and he said his cams are not regrinds and he uses state of the art shit. So for $411.47 shipped for cams springs and reatainers is a killer deal. I bought them.:thumb:
They are a new company and there stuff is cheaper to get the edge on the market.

My idle sucks and I have HKS 264/272s but I think my timings off so that might be why.

Cool keep us informed on the performance of the cams.

Your car should idle like stock with those cams if they are degreed properly. Why don't you take the time to fix it instead of posting about your crappy idle.

Guess your selection really depends on what your power goals are. The smaller BC272/272 cams have the same duration as the popular comp 200 cams but abit more lift (comp 200's have more lift them HKS 272's). Step up to the 280's and they add even more duration and lift. Going by specs even the smaller BC 272's should be a more agressive cam even compared to the comp 200's (comp 200's give up more in the bottom/mid compared to the HKS 272's for better top end).

I went with the 272s and I hope they come soon I am itching to get this motor in.:D

Degreed properly? How would I go about doing that?? I followed the vfaq.com install method to install them.... I was going to get my timing belt job done and let them fix my timing.

Get a set of adjustable timing gears, spend a few hours on the dyno, lots of $$$ and probably not see all that much of a hp gain for the money you spent since HKS as well as most others for are cars are designed to be installed straight up and run great. However you stated that your 262/272 combo is running lumpy so check all your timing marks and make sure they all line up as your timing may be off a tooth when you tensioned the timing belt back up.

Brian Crower grew up at Crower Cams & Equipment Company, where he headed up the Crower Sport Compact division since its inception. With Crower Cams heavily focused on the V8 market, Brian saw an opportunity to truly support the needs of the Sport Compact community. With the support of his family, Brian Crower Inc. was formed to deliver the highest quality internal engine components for a variety of popular engine platforms.

I took it off the site.:thumb:

He seems like a cool guy every time I have called he answers and he remembers who I am. He said my cams are being made right now and I should see them mid next week I am thinking. He wants me to spread the word and he also wants me to give him feedback on his cams. I also told him about you guys, so I will let everybody know how they work.

Do I need ajustable cam gears, how much will it matter if I don't. What is the cheapest set of gears?

Also will I need an oil pump with this rebuild.

If they are like most other cams designed for our cars, don't worry about the cams gears. The cost of the gears and all the dyno time it takes to tune them perfect isn't worth the small hp gains.

Sweet I will put the money twards a new water and oil pump instead.

Danzy,
Thanks for taking the plundge for the community, we really need more guys like you around. That being said im really looking foward to what you say cause like you I have a 6 bolt that im itchin to get into the car!, could we get some pic s when you get the cams, ect. so we can get the total story on this guy.

Thanks and keep on rockin:rocks:

That is definately the son and i'm sure all the parts are fine and great quality just like the rest of the crower stuff. I have been running crower titanium retainers and springs for about a year and a half. Crower itself started to dive into the sport compact market a couple years ago but they just couldn't keep up. The son (Brian) started to full on into the sport compact market. Everytime I call Crower I get someone from the family who answers the phone. They are a pretty small company which keeps the quality control pretty darn good :)

I will post lots of pics of the motor and cams. I even ported the head so I hope I get some pretty good gains going from a motor that has 111111 miles on it as of last night, that blows the dipstick out to a fully built race motor.:rocks:

Crower has been making cams for the DSM's for at least 10 years. Why does everyone think this is something new?

What do you guys think about the 280's on a stroker? Would the higher piston velocity help in smoothing out the idle and retaining bottom end torque? Or is the overlap just too crazy? Is there much to be gained in a street application at around 400whp? I wonder what the ramp rate is like on those things...

^ also interested. Note
cams are now $315 but i don't think the retainers are free anymore.

Nice find though!

The 280's have similar characteristics compared to the fp3x's but the "kit #" only recommends single spring and retainers whereas the fp3x's recommend dual springs? Where's the cutoff or recommonded use (not reving high for instance) for dual and single? These cams would be a little milder, but the savings compared to fp3x's plus duals might be worth it.

Int/Exh - fp3x specs

.430/.414 - Gross lift

212/212 - dur at .050

Definitely seems like a good deal.
I could sell my HKS 272`s for enough to buy that 280 cam, spring and retainer kit with that coupon.
