For all of the all motor 420's that have had rebuilds/engine work, what did you have done, how much did it cost , and what kind of performance gains did you get?
thanks,
Heff

Well I just had some rebuild engine work done on my 99 model. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depends on how you see it), it was still under my extended warranty. So I didn't pay a dime for it, and that's why I had to just take it to the Mitsu dealer and let them do what they wanted. They replaced ONE rod and bearings, piston, crankshaft, fuel pump, and some other stuff. Basically...it cost the warranty company around $2200. It seems to run a lot better (considering it had a rod knocking before I took it in). Can't tell that it improved the performance any higher than what it was when I first bought it (when it had 20k on it), though. Of course, I think if I had been paying for the work myself, I could have probably bought a new engine entirely for that 2200 bucks. LOL

I think I recall seeing on the Buscher site that they were trying to clear out some old inventory and were selling 420As for like 2k (of course, that's just the engine, then you've probably got to put it together and install and all).

Oh, and while they had the engine apart, I went ahead and spent about $270 myself on a new timing belt and other 60k mile maintenance stuff like an AC belt and such.

Heff,I notice on Howell's site...the 2.2 stroker is listed with and without "the core."

Now...common sense, to me, tells me that if anything comes without something...it should be cheaper than if it came WITH that same something. However, the price is higher WITHOUT "the core" than WITH "the core."

Now...I admit I really don't know much about engines at all...but, what's a "core." :(

And why does it cost more to leave it out?

A core is basically the part you are replacing, when you buy a part like a block or a waterpump, or whatever, they charge you a core charge, which is refunded when they receive your old part. To use a waterpump as an example, if you go to autozone and buy a waterpump, it's most likely a rebuilt one. When you give them your old waterpump, they send it to the manufacturer, and they rebuild it and sell it to the next guy, who gives them his old waterpump, etc, . So basically they are going to charge you more if you don't give them your old part, hence the extra "without core" charge.

Wow...I really do learn something every day. At least...every week, anyway. Thanks Heff.

EDIT:

Nm. I think I'll start to keep my mouth shut until shootout time.

All motor is fun to do, but I'm not half way done and I still want the turbo. I'll finish this up, get into the 14s, get my name on the DSMtimes list and then go turbo.

Most powerful stock displacement all motor 2GNT is being built in Phoenix, AZ. :thumb: :talon:
