Im gonna be buying a 91 talon TSI AWD tomorrow and I have a few questions. The timing belt boke on the car so the engine is broke. The guy said it needs new pistons and cylinders. im guessing he means the cylinder walls are messed up. In order to fix the car would I only need a block if i found one cheap and a new timing belt? Ive never hada DSM before but ive been researching alot so i know a decent amount but obviously not too much. The car has 155k miles on it. The body and paint are good as well as the interior. I was told turbo is good and transmission is also good. I am picking it up for $600. Thanks for the help.

If you need new pistons, I would guarantee that you need new valves. For the cylinder walls you could try honing them, but if its anything bad you might want to get the block bored out, and yes if its really bad you'll need a new block.

For $600 bucks it sounds like a good deal. :thumb: But make sure to look the car over really good, with that many miles the turbo better be new, cause if its not it will go out. :notgood: It would really suck building the motor and then just blowing a turbo later on. Will

You are not goint to need to get a new block. I have only seen minor scratches in the cylinder walls from timing belts breaking. It is really not possible to mess the block up so that it can't be bored, unless you break a rod and it goes theu the block. You are gonna need new pistons and rings, the head is going to need all new valves, guides, and seals, you will need new gaskets, you should probably throw a new oil pump on to be safe, oh yeah get rid of those balance shafts so that it doesn't happen again.
