Buying an engine

Hey guys,

Can you give me some websites, such as, JDM Engine Zone but cheaper or anything that sells eclipse gsx motor, if possible with 6 bolt already.

I found a site months ago even before I got my car, this website are selling rebuilt engine for mad cheap like $500, thing is... I forgot the website name =/

Hit me up if you guys have one.

I've been checking this forum out since 5 months ago so I'm not totally new here on this forum. Btw, I'm Phil, I hope you all will treat me nice as I am a newbie to DSM and basically mechanic stuffs.

but on a side note you will have a hard time finding a complete 6 bolt engine in running condition for $500. you can't rebuild it for that

Check the vendors for motors would be a good place to start.

If you are going to be running your car that hard I'd honestly rebuild your current motor. The whole six bolt thing is kind of a stupid argument as the likely hood of crankwalk is NOT significantly increased.

Even if the car had 10,000 miles on it you don't know how much it was beat on and if for those 10,000 miles they were constantly over reving it or what.

But if you can find a motor for 500 bucks maybe it's worth the risk I don't know. If you can rebuild yourself I don't see it being that much. Mostly machine shop prices. What exactly did you do to your previous motor?

A cheap rebuild kit is like 500 bucks on MachV. I had purchased the rebuild kit nearly 3 years ago for a GST I got off my friend. I never got around to rebuilding it before I moved but the car was sold with the kit by my friend and the new owner did get it working properly. As far as I know the MachV rebuild is for stock levels only, however I may be wrong so don't quote me on that.

The thing with that rebuild kit I should mention is it includes pretty much everything bottom end except for a crank. I can't remember but I think it even came with some gaskets. Maybe I just had them and threw them in the box, not sure I just remember there was gaskets in the box.

Never mention JDM, it's 98% the same damn motor as what you have. No changes in design for block and head. Just a slight different cam profile, different turbo, different intake manifold, and different injectors.

Search the classifieds or vobtact a vendor.

What road course track were you at for 145?

And the need for a new front case, etc is very rare. You can do a full rebuild under 500 if you shop smart

Good used crank, couple rods, and machine shop charge to press the new rods in- $200
Gasket set at advance- $60-90 cheaper if you can get the coupon
And $150 for front/rear gaskets
Might as well do timing belt and water pump while everything is apart

Thing is, where could I get those besides the vendor? I mean vendor is good but I want to have a lot of option to buy off.

You cant possibly say that he can rebuild his engine for around 500 wthout looking at the engine and seeing what kind of damage he's done. You have to pull the engine anyway so pull it, break it down, snap pics, and come back. Then we can give you options on a rebuild. I actually considered one of those stupid "JDM" engines with "15,000" miles. I ended up rebuiding my engine my self. Machine shop labor 1400. Pistons and rods 875.

On a side note I hope you never get your car running again. The roads will be safer without your speeding, pot smoking, uneducated self on them. Get a life and grow up.

the general concensus is if your motor has a knock or tick, you NEED a new front case and gears. the scraps will ruin them. i have personally had this happen. every bearing in the bottom end has scraps on it and the oiling holes were plugged. to rebuild to stock and not cheaping out. it will run you 1500 to 2 if your able to salvage a lot of parts.

I based my post upon a rebuild for a standard spun rod bearing. Any cylinder damage, etc would cost more, but worst case scenario a block is $200


As for the front case. I rebuilt my fiances gsx which lost the oil filter and spun 2 bearings for $300. I reused the oil pump and its fine with 40-60psi on cold idle. 20psi at hot idle.
