buying an engine

Hey guysi have a question. I know a friend who has a 2g 7 bolt turbo long block he wants to sell for $300 that needs to be rebuilt. I have a 1g NT and i want to start a project engine. Should I jump on that deal or what??

If its a project engine I'm guessing this would be a motor that would see allot of abuse and high hp!! if thats your goal find a 6 bolt!!
300 for a 7 bolt long block not that bad. You do have to watch out for crank walk with the 7 bolt

I personally would check your local forums for a six bolt (long or short block). I have found much better deals than that localy and again with the seven bolt if you are hard on the engine you allways have the crank walk issue. Allthough it's not that big of a worry if you are not beating the hell out of the engine.

I would also go with a 6-bolt. I picked up a full running 6-bolt short block for $200. After I sold all the parts off of it that I didn't need (pistons, rods, etc) I only spent a little over $100.

You can pick up a good 1g head for around $100 and rebuild it for about $150-200 if it needs it.

If you have a 1G and you want to start a project engine go with the 6 bolt as a matter of fact if it was me and I had a 2G I would still do a 6 bolt block and you can always find a good block around somtimes with stock internals for around 2 or 300 my friend recently sold 2 blocks one with wiesco pistons stock rods and ARP studs and a Reman crank the other was just a bare block and crank. He sold the 2 blocks for 600 bucks the block just got out of the machine shop and the pistons were brand new if you look the pistons alone are close to that price. So watch close you could find a deal like that were you get a engine thats almost complete and a spare block incase you would wanna do a stroker one day. So to wrap it up go with a 6 bolt for your build. Good Luck
