Buying a Talon w/ MAJOR upgrades And have some serious questions.

OK well I ma new to the forums but not a newbie i have owned my stealth TT which is technically a DSM for a while now but it is just too unreliable with the weak drivetrain... I am lookin into a 93 Talon TSI AWD w/ MAJOR upgrades. it has:

Frankenstein level 4 turbo w/ supporting mods at 10psi
new motor w/ 0 miles
Haltech computer system
aftermarket fuel cutoff switch
FMIC
Engine Bored over w/ internals


he wants 6K and he claims the car runs mid to low 11's

what should i look for i nthis car before i buy it? How reliable will this car be? any input?
 
he had the turbo on the previous motor... and the motor had low compression so he rebuilt it... hence the 0 miles
 
it is 10psi on a frank level 4... do you have any knowledge of this turbo? I dont wanna start out new... It is much cheaper to buy an already modded car that is capable of 11's my problem is this i have a stealth that runs 12's and i wanna run 11's for less than that... It's either this talon or an F-body

no sorry i dont, but im trying to learn all i can about turbos since im turboing mine so can you enlighten me real quick?
 
yes, its cheaper to buy a modded car... but then you dont really know how well it was taken care of, and whats going to break next, and whats been upgraded, and what hasnt (internally I mean).

whats he got in there for fuel supply? and who built the new motor, and is it a 6bolt?
 
Do a search for a frankenstein turbos this car has a level 4 i think you'll be quite surprised... And I know all aspects of this car because my friend owns it and is very trustworhy i saw the motor go out and go to the machine shop... i saw the build of the car so i guess u could say i built it but i didn't put any money in it and i didn't drive it and i didn;t put any parts in.

EDIT: I know it is the stock motor... He has 680CC injectors and a 355lph FP with the tuned haltech computer and an adjustable MAF

The Frankenstein series turbos are assembled by Texas Rebuild Turbos. The name comes from the hybrid nature of these turbochargers. Most of them use Garrett center sections and compressor wheels, with Mitsubishi housings and turbine wheels.

The ball-bearing center section makes for good spool-up and durability.

Here are a couple of Frankenstein models and their specs. The other numbered turbos have performance that ranges between these. Frankenstain 5 and 6 are race-only turbos that can produce 600 horsepower and beyond.

Frankenstein level4: This turbocharger uses a very large Mitsubishi TD06 turbine wheel and a really big compressor section. The combo is good for 570 horsepower, but with some big-time turbo lag.
 
1 thing i was always told and makes the most sence to me is that a car is as reliable as the person that built it. like previously stated i would let the motor be broken in first and then check it out.

Personally I'd be a little scepticle;
You have no way of knowing what internals are in the car with out tearing it apart.
Who did the rebuild?
Why would some one put a big turbo like that in and then only run 10psi? Doesn't make sense to me.
Who installed and tuned the haltech?
Why is he selling the car after doing all that work?

1. I know the internals are there i saw them.... a local shop is doing the rebuild

2. He is only running 10psi because he is afraid of the car

3. The haltech was tuned and installed on the car when he bought it.

4. He is afraid of it and he bought a WRX.

note: he bought the car with everything in it at a used car dealership for like 2500 (the guy had no idea what it was) then he drove it and now he just had all the motor work done so he could sell it because he can get more for it with a good motor than a bad motor.
