Buying a DSM soon... have some questions...

Hey,
I am looking into a DSM. I have the choice of a 1990 Laser 1.8L Auto with rims, guages and NOS, or a Stock 1991 RS turbo 5spd, both around the $1000 CDN price mark. I am looking for a project car, something to have some fun with over the summer and then work on over the winter. Questions... Is a 5spd from a 4g63t able to bolt up to a 1.8L? Are there any aftermarket (B&M / Hurst / etc.) shifters and shift kits for the automatic? Through out this site I have noticed that alot of ppl here say a 4g63t swap is very hard and not worth it on a 1.8L Auto, but after my friend dropped a 4g63t into a 1993 colt in 3 weeks (only working on it on the weekends), I am convinced otherwise. If I do get the 1990 (automatic) I will probably do the 4g63t swap over the winter. I am liking the NOS part and all the guages and rims etc. As for the 1991 RS, my friend has an RS, Its ok... My outlook on this is the engine and tranny are comming out no matter what so I dont have to worry about blowing it up with *FunnyGas*. What are your guy's thoughs on this?

personally i would with a STOCK turbo awd thats in good condition. If you are already seeing difficulty with a swap, then just buy a awd 4g63 and your good to go.

If you buy either of these you'll probably be disapointed you didn't get an AWD. Reason being is traction. Now if you did get the 1.8 and wanted to do the swap it is considered difficult for someone with little experience. If your buddy did it into a colt I would suggest having him help you out (or whoever helped him if any). It would be easier just to buy the 4g63T car and boost away happy though. What is your reason for preferring the 1.8 over the other car? And by the way its Nitrous, NOS is a company owned by Holley automotive who produces nitrous injection kits.
