I'm about ready to give my 93 Laser 1.8L to my sister, and am looking at a 1990 Eagle Talon turbo front wheel drive, the only problem with this car is it has an oil leak on the bottom, don't know what it's called I can try to get a pic though and it doesn't always start. When you turn the ignition it sometimes just does nothing but othertimes will start right up, it has a new starter says the guy, so I'm not sure. The car itself is $1200 from a friend of a friend. Anything else I should look at/for? It has 119,000 miles on it. Everything is stock except the exhaust. Any tips/comment/thoughts/worries for me are appreciated. Thanks in advance. - Alex

How much oil does it leak?

What kind of shape is the car in?

Have you looked under the hood? How's it look?

Have you taken it out for a drive? How does it drive?

The price seems fairly good if there is nothing to horribly wrong with it.

The oil leak seems minimal, has to be checked about once a week or so according to this guy.

The Car overall is clean, except the back right side was side swiped by a pick up, and it does need to be replaced.

Under the hood seems ok, it's clean looking. From what I understand it had new wires put in, new plugs, new timing belt, new battery new starter.

I did take it out for a drive, shifts fine clutch seems good. Didn't notice any weird noises and it didn't feel odd driving it.

I don't think there is anything super wrong with it, it needs brakes. The body is ok condition, but that's not a super issue at this time. The only thing that bothers me a little is the starter thing.

Thanks for your reply.

Now with the starter, when you say it does nothing, what do you mean?

It doesn't even try and turn over? That sounds like a faulty or loose wire connected to the starter. Did the guy replace any of the battery cables and what not when he replaced the starter? I would have imagined that with all the replacements to the charging/ignition system, he would have done that, but some don't. That might be the problem there.

As far as beyond that, I'd say it's not that raw of a deal. :thumb:

Do a freakin compression test and cover your butt! Its "low" miles for a 90 but it still has 119K on the car.

Did he replace the TB tensioner as well, if so with what brand?

Do you have any pics you can post so we can take a looky look at it for you?
