I'm going to be buying a 98 GST in 2 days and I had a few questions for you guys with more knowledge on DSM's than I, this will be my first DSM. The mods than are done to it are an evo III turbo, full 3" apexi exhaust aftermarket turbo manifold, gauges, short throw shifter, SAFC(if someone could explain what that is i would appreciate it), turbo timer, greddy bov, 450cc injectors, apexi lowering springs and a front mount intercooler.

It seems to be running a tad bit rich at idle, it smokes just barely and when deaccelerating it will studder kinda. The only thing wrong with the car is that it needs a "tune". I assume that just means buying a dsmlink and tuning it from there? Are these common problems on a DSM needing a tune? Thanks ahead of time!

The SAFC is the stand alone fuel control, its just basic tuning for fuel. I would look her over real good, you can tell when these cars have been pisspounded... Make sure that EVO III is a true mitsubishi turbo, and not an ebay special. Be weary of that smoke, the only time my car smokes is when it's a little chilly out or when it's just warming up.

Anything with bigger injectors, different turbo, intercooler stuff like that could use an updated tune.

Good luck with the car if you end up getting it!

Well, he just fired it up it had been sitting for about an hour and it was chilly out so that may be why it was smoking. It wasn't much smoke at all, maybe it was only noticeable because of the cold. How can I tell if it is a true evo III turbo? and is it gonna be absolutely necessary to buy some software to get it tuned and tune it asap or can it wait a little bit? I really appreciate all of the help and sorry for the noobness D:
