Hi, first post here.

I'm looking at buying a 99 GST. The Eclipse is not running but the motor is turning, so I'm thinking it's the head. What's the best place to get a rebuild kit from and how much do they run for?

Also, as far as the car computer, to modify it, are there programmers? or how do you go about it?

Any common issues with the 99 GST?

Thanks for all the help.

The reason for it not running can be a number of issues. There can be a spun bearing or a simple fuse will need be replaced. I guess depending on the price he's selling it for does or doesn't matter. What is your budget? Planning on reusing the rods and pistons?

As far as programming goes, dsmlink is available, piggy-back programmers are available, chipped EPROM ecu's with custom chips, aem ecu (extreme tuning in my opinion). There are plenty of options available, just depending on how much you want to spend and what goals you have in mind.

Thank you for the reply.

Well, we'll probably rebuild the head, and check out if all the pistons/block are ok.
From the sound of it, the seller overreved the 4G63 (he also has the PSI pretty high). I talked to him and he doesn't know what the shop did to the car (he has a lot of aftermarket mods, but didn't put them on himself). My dad and I are driving to look at it Friday.

I'm actually looking at the comp to see if I can program it down, since the work on it is putting a strain on the motor.

As it is, HP is somewhere around 350-450. I'd rather move it back to a healthy range around 250-300hp.

Make sure the bottom end is good, you can always replace or rebuild the topend with little difficulty. Find out from him what the shop did to his ride and what they told him.

If it's a 99, then he also has the option of getting a Tactrix cable and using Evoscan and ECUFlash with the Ceddy mods. The Ceddy mods can be found on here. Do a search.:thumb:
