Well, my warranty on my 99 avenger is almost up and so I am lokin' to switch up my ride. I found a 99 gst spyder w/ 25,000mi. for $12,750. I was wondering if any1 has had any prob. with their eclipse anything in aprticular on the eclipse that I should keep an eye out for on the car when I go to test drive it??? Thanx for any and all help you can gimme guys, I am hoping to be a "true" :dsm: er within a few weeks.

get it throughly checked out, look for signs of crankwalk, um, go spend the extra 100 dollars to get it inspected, which is totally worth it.

well you said its a spyder, watch for leaky roof...i mean its not a problem that should make you change your mind about buying the car in general...but its better to know that its leaky now rather than when you're driving 20miles from home in the rain huh?

i have a 99 spyder, and yes, definitely watch out for a leaky roof. mine leaks almost everytime it rains, so i have to carry towels with me. another thing to watch out for is the ball joints and cv joints. i had to replace my ball joints twice already. also, the clutch pretty much sucks once you get over 200 whp. so, if you are considering upgrading anything, a performance clutch should be close to the top of your list. other than that, i havent had any major problems with mine.

thanx for the info guys. Yes I am buying from a dealership and It is actually an automatic so I guess ball joints and leaky roof are the hot spots...I am tryin to think how I can check the roof. Maybe if i had like a glass of water or sumthin and took it for a test drive and poured it on top to check for leaks?? I dunno, in any event I wan this car I went to my credit union 2day to check on what i can get for a loan. wish me luck! :thumb:

if you are getting this car from a mitsubishi dealership, you can ask them to do a water pressure test on the roof. they do that at the dealership. after i bought my car, i called them back after a few weeks to tell them that water is leaking and they told me to bring it to them and they'll do the test for $60.00 just to find out where exactly it's leaking from. in your case, you haven't bought the car yet and they are trying to sell it to you. so tell them to do that so you wouldn't have to pay for it later on.

where did you find 99 GST Spyder with 25k miles for that price?!? Wow! :thumb: My roof leaks too, is there any way to fix that?

leaky roof is a minor concern it can always be fixed with tighting the arm of the convertable, id watch out for alighnment, CV joints and ball joints, also when u take the car for a test drive its the clutch slips (ifs it manual) ul have a bigger problem on the way. if your trans slips in a AUTO, ul be buyin a new trans very soon. the biggest i would say would be the turbos condition (ask if u can take off the intake pipe and check for shaftplay) bring a bottle of soapy water and spray it on the turbo and exhaust manifold to check for leaks / cracks. they should do it for u and u should be able to watch. but good luck ad best wishing if all is good ul like the DSM and if so welcome to the online family.

not bad price, my GST has 41,000 miles 5 speed i got mine for 10,000. That spyder must have been garaged stored and never driven to often.

Socked in by snow up here in amss so I havent had a chance to thank you guys again. 26" wehre im at!! ANyway, goin to a car waSH WOULD BE A GREAt way to check so thanx for that suggestion. I was going to go test drive is on sat. but with the impending snow Im going to have t wait till enxt weekend I think. In any event it is an automatic, how do I know if the clutch is slipping? do i listen for something what does it feel like? also it does have 7 hits on it from carfax if I drive it and it still seems like a good car i will toss the $20 out there and get the carfax for sure. I am thinking most are from recalls tho. I know my venge has a bunch of recalls I fig same factory, no diff. Again guys, just like ASOG there seems to be a great group of ppl here always willing to help so thanx again :thumb: :dsm:

No offense, but if you are dumping your avenger because the warranty is up then these cars are not for you.

Sports cars are bought by two types of people. Those that enjoy having one, and those that enjoy keeping one. The first, washes and waxes the car every sunday regardless if it made it out of the garage or not. The second rebuilds the block on saturday because they blew it friday night.

If the car comes with a warranty that covers everything that you want that is great. This isn't a new car anymore and will need maintenace.

I haven't had a single problem with my Venge up to this point. It has been a great car and it will be sad to give it up because it is the first car i boguht myself. I am "dumping" it because of a few reasons, a: I want a new car,b: the warranty will soon be up and c: I want a new car. Not to mention that my credit unioin pre-approvced me for a bunch of money my credit rating is going to get better and better so later in life I will be hooked up. I want this car in particular because I want a good lookin convertible. And I am hoping to soon have it :thumb:

Car Fax is a joke. I wouldn't waste my money. The dealership should be able to run one for you for free, even then, it is still a joke. I had two accidents in my BMW (got rear ended twice, first time $7000 in damage, second time $2500 in damage), both fixed by insurance and niether showed up on Car Fax when I sold it.
