So, i'm sure its already posted somewhere in this forum, but I just couldn't find it.

I'm buying a 99 gsx shell w/ tranny, and I want to know if I should buy a 1g or 2g engine for it.

I've been researching the 1g swap, and it looks like I would need to also buy a 2g engine to get some of the parts I need... but I also don't want to buy a 2g and get crankwalk...

any advice from you guys would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

anybody?

It all depends what you plan on doing with the car? daily driver you should be fine with a good 2g, if you are looking for performance go with 1g. or at least a 1g bottom end.

1g and 2g is being very vague. They produced two different motor types in the 1gs, a 6bolt and a 7 bolt, then the 2gs were all 7bolts. Like willy said if you want performance go with a 6bolt(early 1g, 89-91) instead of a 7 bolt (92 and on).

:ohdamn: good stuff forgot to add that

thanks for the advice so far! but what I'm asking is if I get the 1g, do I still need to purchase parts from the 2g? Remember, I only bought the 99 shell, there is no engine in it!

...or should I just buy a 2g and pray! LOL

... also, I've been readin about sum people sayin that mitsu "revised" the 7 bolt, but I can't find any other sites that prove this...

There is a list of the parts that you will need in order to do the swap. In my personal opinion, I would buy a 6 bolt (turbo and non-turbo won't matter IF you are planning on rebuilding, but if you buy the non-turbo 6 bolt you will have to get extra parts needed), then purchase the parts you need for the install of it into the 2g shell. I was gonna post a list of what you'd need but I'll just post the link to slowboyracing's website that has a list of things that is included in their kit. You should have most of this stuff when you buy the 6 bolt so you can mark off what you have. There are also two different cam angle sensors, I don't remember what the difference was. The VFAQ has a lot of info you could use on this. Here is the install instructions for the swap of what will need to be done in order to fit a 6 bolt in.
