Well yesterday I was having some fun on the hwy and ended up burning a hole in my piston. I'm assuming its due to a lean condition but I'm not sure exactly why. The most logical idea that has come my way is the injector on that cylinder may have crapped out. The cylinder wall is completly shot so I am in search of a 7bolt replacment.

If the wrist pin hole on the rod is still in spec and the rod is straight it can be used. I did a similar bit of damage and my connecting rod survived.

Here is a picture of my melted goodness just so you know you aren't alone.

Damn. Be damn sure to check you injectors for proper operation before putting in a new motor.

Actually I was running out of injector... I have 1000cc and running them at 100%dc. I was planning on upgrading injectors in feb but this little setback went ahead and pushed up that date. Ive had so many issues that it might be time to move on to something different.

That is from pre-ignition. Most likely a shitty tune. The car was detonating in that cylinder.

The car was being tuned at the moment. I had the a/f sitting at 12.1-12.3 @WOT (e85 at 33psi)all the way to redline. Not sure what happened

when that happens, the rods can be use on a rebuild?

I'm hoping so... The other 3 pistons/rods are in perfect condtion. No sign of dentenation. The burnt piston rod looks good but when I drop off the new block at the machine shop I will have them check . I will also be ordering a new piston and all new rings from weisco tomorrow to get this thing back on the road by xmas.

Sounds like a clogged injector due to E85, some injectors are not E85 friendly and become partially clogged, do the injectors have a lot of gunk buildup?

This past week I pulled the injectors and soaked them in gasoline to get all the goo build up off... which it did work. Also I have been running these injectors for about 6 months without issue until now. This sucks!

I did the same thing when i lifted the head and blew the head gasket. My pistons looked perfect no pitting on the sides just a hole running down the ringlands where the gasket blew. It is worth saying i damaged the head and put a hole all the way out the side of the engine. This was at 40psi of boost on a S258 and E85.
