Like the title says, I just noticed a small cone shaped hole in the top of my brand new Wiseco pistons. They are individual pistons right from Wiseco as I needed 2 replacements. I don't have a picture, but it looks somethiing like this: -v- basically. It is very small and it's on both of my new pistons in the same location, looks centerlined to the piston dish and closer to the outer edge. Almost not noticeable until you bring it close to your face....very odd as my other used pistons don't have this and didn't have it when they were new. What is this oddity?

i just put new weiscos in my stroker and i have no idea what your talking about. do you have pictures? maybe you should take them to a machine shop you trust and see if they think somethings wrong

Yea, like I said my older pistons don't have this hole, only my recent ones do so it's logical to assume this hole is an irregularity.

This seems to have a lot of people confused because at first sight it looks really questionable as to why that's in the piston dish because that kind of hole basically should serve no purpose and would only promote detonation...I hope there's a logical answer to this and I won't have to send them back and endure even more downtime. I'm going to contact Brian Nutter from Wiseco actually or maybe he sees this thread before I get a chance to :)

Well I finally got some pictures taken with a good quality camera.

thats telling you which way it needs to face......the side that it is on means thats the side that points towards where the timing belt goes (front of engine) if you get a hold of the stock pistons they have an arrow instead of the indent like yours do.

Could it have anything to do with correcting an inbalance of the piston?

you are correct sir same thing with a 2 stroke tell you what side faces the exhaust pistons are directional

yes I confirmed it with wiseco rep Brian N. that is a dimple to indicate the orientation of the piston in relation to the front of the piston. It's something new they incorporated in the design since many people didn't know just by looking at the valve reliefs.
