I'm looking into doing a bal shaft elim with my next timing belt change (asap). There's seemingly 100 different ways to do it, so let me see if I got this right:

-If i'm leaving the front shaft in, all I have to do is pull the rear shaft, install the stubby shaft, and put a bolt in to the hole where the bs tensioner pulley used to be to prevent an oil leak.

-Will I still have to drop the transfer case and oil pan if I'm not pulling the front shaft and switching the bearings?

-Some people mention shimming the sprocket on the front shaft to keep it from leaking, should I expect there will be freeplay with the sprocket installed so I'll have to shim it to keep the shaft from moving and causing a leak?

-Since I'm not pulling the front shaft I won't need the bearings or the freeze plug, right?

Anything else I need to do while I'm down there?

thanks :rocks:

Dude, just drop the T-Case and Driveline.
I'll be doing mine next weekend.

Cutting corners just to save you some time may bite you in the nuts in the long run.
