Before you do anything, since you have a BSEK installed, take off the oil filter housing and port the relief hole. Especially since you said it had a HP oil pump. Why anyone would use a HP oil pump on a DSM with a BSEK is beyond me...

This was stated in another post I have going. Anyone had this problem before?? and if so 2 things... Why? and what did you do to correct the problem. I don't want to get this engine installed and then find out I have to do the mod' mentioned and pull the motor again.

Removing the balance shafts raises the oil pressure. Porting the filter housing lowers oil pressure. Do both and they should cancel each other out, which is good.

As far as a hp oil pump, I'm assuming this is a high pressure pump, that would be a bad idea because DSMs have problems with high oil pressure being anyways. I have never seen a high pressure oil pump/front case before though.

Anyways, hope this helps!

Thanks for the help. I'll have to check with the guy I bought the engine from and double check he meant it had a HP oil pump. If it is what he says I'll take the thing off and do the mod.

Just to clarify, it's the blocking off the oil passages that's required when you remove the front balance shaft that causes the oil pressure to go up.

The relief valve works like the FPR, it's supposed to dump the excess oil back into the pan when the pressure rises but it gets overrun and can't let enough out to keep the pressure from climbing. Porting it improves the flow rate and allows the valve to do it's job. It's not a bad idea even if you still have the balance shafts installed.

Are you gettign a high pressure pump mixed with a high flow?

just got done with asking the guy I bought the engine from and it was my mistake he said it was a high flow not high pressure. So my dumb@$$ :ohdamn::ohdamn:

Yeah... I have a feeling someone failed to do the relief porting on the oil filter housing on my motor after eliminating the balance shafts.

I see oil eking its way out near the junction of the front cover, oil filter bracket, and oil pan. Gaskets look to be in serviceable condition (what I can see) but will probably get replaced when I pull everything in the coming week. Stock oil pressure gauge reads half way between normal and maximum... so yeah, a tad high. Really hate half-assers.

:sosad: sorry to hear that. I'm going to take mine off and do the porting just to be on the safe side. Last thing I want is oil leaks again. That's what caused my problem in the first place. See some of my other posts; "timing belt stripped" all because of oil on the timing belt from a leaky oil pump gasket.
