Ok I have seen a lot in the years i have been working on DSM's but this is a new one. Last nite I was driving a friends car I built (96 Tsi AWD 6-bolt swap Built engine, Shepperd Trans with 4 spider center diff, 3065 at 20 psi) I launched the car for the first time ever with a 2100 act clutch and it shredded the tripod bearings in the rear axle on the drivers side. Then the axle popped out ripping the boot and then ending up under the rear diff breaking the diff mounts.

Now has anyone seen this before! I was under the impression that 2g rear axles are strong? Ohh and I only launched it at 5000rpm:cry:

Hmm ,well since I have near identical setup as far as turbo I am also a bit worried I thought the axles were strong in the 2gs. Maybe wheel hop killed it.. But mabye 5000 is a bit much on that 3065 even at 20 or maybe you need to slip the clutch more to save the axles.I dont even think there are stronger axles made yet for the 2g awd or are there?

you probably broke the diff mounts first and then the axle pulled apart and ripped the boot. The problem is not the axles its the way the diff is mounted, it's mounted on the rear cover of the diff which is aluminum. I have an extra non-lsd axle if you need, let me know.

I recently just did the same thing, I've been having a hard time locating the pieces as well, so i'm replacing the whole rear, I have already purchased a used cover, and i will have an extra axle cup and joint if you need it. PM me if you like
