Rear axle removal 2g AWD

[Slow 95 TSI]

I tried searching and didn't find an answer that helped me.

I wanted to pull the driver rear axle and I can't get it to pop out of the diff. Do I need to open the rear diff up and remove any kind of retainer clip or are these axles just a bi*** to release? I bent a bar trying to pop it loose already. If they do just pop out is there a trick I need to know?
