I have a brand new MHI 16g,and I noticed an oil leak dripping onto my downpipe,so I figured it was the oil return. After looking up I saw oil that looked like it was coming out of the v-band clamp that holds the hotside, and cold together. Then I pulled the intercooler pipes off after the j-pipe and noticed oil puddles. This turbo has barely 360 miles on it. Could this be true? It only leaks onto the downpipe when I shut the car off.

Its also has a brand new oil feed from the head.

I havent even been boosting to much on it since im also on a fresh build.

So i just recieved a rebuilt 14b from a friend to borrow for the time being...My question is what should I check to make sure this doesnt happen to his turbo.

Would to much oil cause this? Or could it be possible to have broken a ring land, and i'm mistaking it for the turbo?
Would using the wrong oil perhaps cause this because I have just been using regular 10-30 for break in purposes.

How long does a turbo need to be broken in before it sees boosT?

Run the stock 1G feed line from the head and you'll be absolutely fine.

You should be using 10W30 or thicker at all times.

Some say the turbo needs a break-in period, I don't see where this is necessary. As long as the turbo is getting oil, there's nothing that needs to "seat" like the piston rings in your engine do. I've had customers that have backed out on the main road in front of my shop right after installing a rebuilt turbo and done a stutter launch.

I have the stock ebay hard line laying around here. Although plenty of people run the ss line from the head so I guess I was just not that lucky.

Thankyou everyone. Any more suggestions would be nice.

Have you checked your PCV valve or your catchcan/filter on the valvecover?

While in the process of installing my brand new turbo and FMIC setup, I removed my catchcan and capped off the lines going to it. I forgot to remove the caps before firing up the car and the turbo was leaking tons of oil past the seals. I was going crazy trying to figure out what it was...it took me 30 mins before I realized that I was pressuring the crankcase and the oil wasn't draining correctly. It made a real mess in my IC piping but luckily I found the problem before it did any damage.

I have a brand new pcv valve, but im using an air compressor filter as a catch can (on the side of the valve cover) that is suppose to drain the oil automatically, but I havent noticed any oil filling up. I wonder if this is just a block causing high crankcase pressure? My dipstick is popping out,but im not sure if this is because it is very old. Should I be using just a filter? I thought that would cause a lean condition...

Just pull that filter off and see if it fixes your problem. You can even drive around like that, its not going to spew oil out of your valve cover...its more of an oil spray. Doing this will definitely NOT cause a lean condition.

You'll also want to take off your IC and clean it with something like gasoline, there will be a lot of oil trapped in there.

Thanks for the video...

I will try using just a filter breather this time, I just dont want this to happen again obviously, so i'm willing to try out a couple different options.

I wonder if my oil return is to small of a diameter?
