My buddy had to do something similar to brace the firewall in a Mighty Max because strong clutches would cause the whole firewall to flex. Nice fix though!

How did you find that this was a problem?

Ive been looking into trying to make an adaptor for this on my 2g with out adding a lot of extra plates everywhere, I wanted to use the strut brace but it would still move unless its bolted like how you have it, the next option is the strut tower the the only place to bolt it to.

Yours looks good though and a drill through the fender is easily done

This is a problem on every cheaper car I've ever worked on.

The problem with 2Gs is the damn engine bay has so little room to work in. I'd like to build a 2G version so will be coming up with something that can be installed by the average DIY'er.

That's a lot of flex! Interesting product and concept - I wouldn't have ever thought to look for that or correct it.

Is this something that you noticed as an issue while driving, or something you read about and decided to check?

It's something I thought about after doing a firewall repair and clutch MC brace on a Mazda 6. Apparently Mazda doesn't just build crappy rotary engines as this particular 6 had a cracked pedal assembly which led to a huge split in the firewall similar to this:

For future reference...

snowborder714's 1995 GST:
No ABS
Engine out of car
Maximum deflection of 0.05" when I hit it as hard as possible, but it actually deflected quite similar to your video
Could visibly see MC move

My 1999 GSX:
ABS
Engine in car - couldn't fit dial indicator in position to take a measurement
Could visibly see MC move

Even if the engine were out of my car, the routing of the ABS lines would certainly make it hard to take a measurement, and even harder to fit a brace to the side of the strut tower like you've done. I think the best option would be coming down from the top of the strut tower, but you'd probably still want to drill a hole through the strut tower there to bolt the brace at the bottom, too. Otherwise, the brace would likely flex too much with how long the it would have to be.
