My car has been sitting for a while(in the rain and snow) and my brakes were acting a little goofy yesterday when i took the tsi around the block, so i took the calipers off and apart and found the grease to be all black, thick and nasty. So im spending some time today cleaning them out.

The only grease i have at the shop is white lithium grease, And some other generic stuff in a grease gun... is it a bad idea to put either in my brakes? Probably should just go pick up some brake grease right?

You're kidding right?

The only grease the brake system gets is a light coat on the slide pins.

He probably means lubrication in the pistons.

Clean them out. Give them a light coating, replace the seals, and you're good to go.

I cleaned mine out on my N/T and there were actually black leathery strips of dried material packed inside. Was pretty gross.

You need to use Brake Caliper grease on the pins. It will hold up to the head and not get too tacky so the calipers can still move.

From what i understand other normal grease does not withstand the heat that brakes are exposed to as well. Simply put, just use the correct brake grease

Yea i was talkIng about the slide pins but now im considering popping out those pistons too because i dont want to have any issues with these brakes for the rest of the summer..

replace the seals, and you're good to go.
- can i get them at autozone ?

It just depends on the store. Some carry them, some don't. My local one does, luckily.

What's it called... a Caliper Rebuild kit? Comes with all of the gaskets and such. Just google it first, then call and ask about it. It's been a while since I meesed with calipers.

Thanks ill give them a call after work. It needs to be fixed up because when i hit the brake pedal with the caliper off the rotor, only one of the two pistons moves outward. On both the front brakes :notgood:

Don't need to make a sudden stop, otherwise it'll be like that song " You saw my Blinker, B**** " about their teeth being stuck in the dash. ;P

"Then I saw what happened in the crash. Her dentures came out got stuck in the dash"
