2G brake fluid cap supposed to look like this?

brake light came on today, went to check fluid and this is what the cap looks like, is this right?

Its been a while since I've checked but I dont think mine had that rubber piece

The brake light on the dashboard is typically for the barking brake, but can also illuminate when the battery light is on to indicate a charging system fault

Yes, I've seen it many times even on other cars. I believe it is by design to allow the fluid level to drop without introducing outside air or a leak. Just pop the rubber boot back into the cap, top off the brake fluid and reinstall the cap.

Are your brake pads toast or do you have a leak in the system? That fluid is going somewhere and you should investigate.

Does that purposely, when the fluid starts getting low. Push it back in and top off fluid.

There is a sensor in reservoir for low brake fluid. That is what the wires on it are for. It is possible that the float for the reservoir is stuck. Check fluid level. Also check parking brake switch.
Would not be a bad idea to upgrade to 3g brake master. Reservoir is right on top of master cylinder. It has a bigger piston and cleans up engine bay

It was mentioned, but do not blindly refill the reservoir. Why is the fluid low? Check brake pads, front and rear, inside and outside. If they are good, check for leaks. Brake pads being low is the most likely.

As other have said....As the brake pads wear and fluid level drops that diaphragm you are seeing gets pulled down so the system does not create a vacuum but still remains sealed from outside air. If all your pads are well worn it is normal to see the reservoir drop quite a bit.

I would check your pads before adding fluid. If you just fill it up and then replace the pads later you can/will push fluid out the reservoir which will leak all over and damage paint ect.
