im sure it is adumb question but im learning  .....some of my sources have told me that i wouldn't really need a bov with an automatic it is a 97 w/ stock everything still, including turbo..y not if so or y should i get it. I just ordered my 1st part k&n fipk so i'm taking baby steps but want to know every detail about the things im getting b4 i buy them ROFL

I don't understand why you wouldn't need a different BOV just because your car is an AUTO. The BOV bleeds off excess pressure out of the upper intercooler pipe so it doesn't back up in they system. Whether or not your car is an auto or stick you'll still need to blead off the pressure, especially when you want to go with more boost. From my understanding, (and I am new at this) your BOV has more to do with throttle positioning than with your tranny. I.E. when you let off the throttle the butterfly in the throttle body closes and increases pressure, which has to go somewhere... And thats out through the BOV. When you want more boost you'll have to get away from the junky plastic BOV that doesn't hold much PSI. I have a 1g Bov on my car and Im running abou 15 psi or so. Im quite happy with how my car puts around for now. Its an auto also. :D

People are saying that because you don't lift off the gas to shift, a chipped car with "No lift to shift" will be the same. But, you'll still want a BOV to vent the pressure when you finally lift once you reach speed.

well your bov wont be able to hold alot of boost once you turn boost up. so you will need another bov.

Just to make sure it is understood (since the originally poster seems like a real newbie), the 2g stock bov is junk, and should be replaced. No you do not need a real expensive high tech bov. You could just go get a cheap 1g bov and hold tons of boost without leaking.
Either way, you need some sort of one on there...

choosing a bov is relative to what you want to do with the car. if you want to eventually get tons of horse power the bov is one of the first things that needs to be changed. since you are new at this here are a few things you should look into when starting to get some real horses. first change that stock intercooler piping. the stock ruber ones are junk. then decide what bov you want. i personaly use the greedy type s because it has a recirculating tube on it. now your ready to ad some horse power gainers. the sky is the limit on dsms. sein how you have an auto you might want to look into getting a shift kit so you dont damage your tranny when power stalling to race. (i learned the hard way)
