I've had my Eclipse for about 6 months, and just thought I had a really bad boost leak (didn't find any) or something else was wrong, because I had never heard my BOV. Well, today I let a buddy of mine drive me around town, and I heard the BOV quite a few times. He was shifting manually, L, 2, D, O/D, and when I attempted it, I couldn't get it.
What RPM's do I shift at to hear it? Anyway to do this at higher speeds, like highway? Pretty much stock everything, except for custom exhaust (cat-back) and a K&N filter. I searched, and I couldn't find anything specifically related to auto trannys and the BOV "whistle".

Not sure if this is also true for the 2Gs, but on the 1Gs the CBV (BOV) is situated on the passenger side, and is MUCH more audible in the passenger seat, especially with the window down. Even the stocker. And yeah, the CBV only opens when the throttle plate is closed, and there's still boost coming into the intercooler pipes. Just rev the car firmly to around 5K and let off abruptly.
Also on 1g's the dump tube is down by the turbo where the 2g's is near the airfilter so you will hear the 2'gs more then the 1g's. I have a auto 1g and I can bearlly hear it. It's more of a faint fart then anything which if fine with me.

And it's still sitting on the shelf, Steve. Thought you were going to buy an S, as the RS was crap?

Anyway, with an auto, the only way to get your BOV to blow off is to build boost, then let off the throttle. The reason you hardly ever hear it is b/c with the auto, you never release the pedal (no lift to shift) so you never lose boost. B/C of this, your BOV has no need to let off until you do. I could go into more detail, but I think you get the idea. Don't let anyone tease you about your auto, there are pros and cons to having both. Trust me, I know

One more thing, you'll here your BOV alot better/more when you upgrade all of your pipes. A K&N and a cheap intake will make it alot more audible. I know my HKS is basically just as loud vented or not. (Had to vent for a few days b/c my old dump tube wouldn't fit)

Batty I still think the rs is crap but till I find a type s I need one for my car to run!! LOL LOL :D

heh... most of the ricer's i've seen don't have turbos.........

if you don't like the sound of a BOV and don't naturally want to here it, there's something wrong with you.

With a blow off valve, when you let off of the gas the air pressure left in your intake piping is relieved as the blow off valve opens up."whoosh!"

How it works
A small diameter hose runs from the intake manifold to the blow off valve. When the pressure in the intake manifold is positive (in boost), the pressure in the small hose keeps the wastegate closed.

Once you let off of the gas, the throttle plate closes, and all of the air in the intake manifold is sucked into the engine. With negative, or zero pressure in the intake manifold, the blow off valve opens up and releases all of the compressed air from the intake piping. Hence the "whoosh" or blow off sound. Heavy gas high RPM's let off gas quickly. "WHOOSH" I like to write WHOOSH! :sneaky:

Thanks for the compliments on the boost leak tester. Being broke and buying this car was not a good idea, but it is so damn fun. I think you guys were right about my BOV, I never have to let off the gas to shift, so I never have any "extra" boost that has to escape. I figured out how to do it now because of you guys, but mine is like more of a sqeaky, squealing type of thing. I am ordering a 1G BOV soon, along with a UICP, new plugs and wires, a custom intake, a new downpipe (broken flexpipe), and all new timing components. I doubt I'll ever hear my BOV again, because kicking the RPM's up like that made me very uncomfortable, I can't afford a broken car. The reason that my buddy was able to do it in low gears was because he let off the gas to shift, and there was nothing restricting the RPMs.
Thanks for the help and finally believing that I wasn't a ricer.

Well 1g bov is good I would go with a greddy intercooler pipe kit and greddy bov better imo. You will hear the bov too not as loud but alot more then before when your stock. If your car isn't in good shape then I wouldn't run it hard either but if it's running good then it isn't going to break just cause you run it hard once in awhile. I mean come on that's what a turbo is for right.

Hey could you send me a link to that kit please TSIMONSTER thanks.

Here is the thread, read it.
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=207809&page=10

Page 10 is the main part. Don't be lazy and ask for what to do, is all there and it only takes a few minutes to read and you save a bundle for it. *Note* The page might take a while to load due to being 45pages long. ROFL

What am I missing? I looked at the page and didn't see anything. I saw where to email someone about information or something. Help me out here.

There is a Group buy going on. The thread is full of info about the kit. You can get the entire kit for $295 shipped. There is also a GREAT tech article about installing it (thanks to greddygst). Read the whole thread!! Tons of good information, including how to take part in the GB.

Also, if you have a high res screen, or you have your thread view set up differently (as i do) it may not be on page 10. The thread is only 33 pages long from my pc. Just FYI
