BOV sound in an automatic?

I've had my Eclipse for about 6 months, and just thought I had a really bad boost leak (didn't find any) or something else was wrong, because I had never heard my BOV. Well, today I let a buddy of mine drive me around town, and I heard the BOV quite a few times. He was shifting manually, L, 2, D, O/D, and when I attempted it, I couldn't get it.
What RPM's do I shift at to hear it? Anyway to do this at higher speeds, like highway? Pretty much stock everything, except for custom exhaust (cat-back) and a K&N filter. I searched, and I couldn't find anything specifically related to auto trannys and the BOV "whistle".

Throttle closes, BOV opens. If the throttle never closes, the BOV never opens... that's why you never hear it. What speed you shift at won't change anything.

I dont think your auto tranny is meant to be manually shifted while moving.

You shouldn't drive your car like that "shifting manually" is an automatic just put it on D. Doing that could lead to problems and bye bye tranny. BOV sound gets old after a while..

Just give it some gas, then let off. As soon as you're off the throttle, you'll hear it. Assuming you built enough boost.

The stock bov is so unbeleibably quiet anyway its hard to hear at all.

Not really, mine was definately audible with a K&N (which he has).

Not sure if this is also true for the 2Gs, but on the 1Gs the CBV (BOV) is situated on the passenger side, and is MUCH more audible in the passenger seat, especially with the window down. Even the stocker. And yeah, the CBV only opens when the throttle plate is closed, and there's still boost coming into the intercooler pipes. Just rev the car firmly to around 5K and let off abruptly.

Maybe that's what it is. I always drive in D, but today my buddy was driving it for no more than 5 minutes. I started to yell at him for shifting (I know it's bad), but I shut up when I heard the BOV. I was literally in awe as I've never heard it before on my car. I try to drive fuel efficiently so I never abrubtly let off the gas, maybe that's why I never hear it. I don't know, I'm about to hop on the highway to go to the store anyway, so I'll try it.
Also, I didn't choose an auto, I got a great deal on this car and I couldn't pass it up. Shit, I didn't even know it was that much of a sports car until I came on here and other sites and did my research. I like my auto, great for a DD, but had I known what I know now, I would've looked for a stick. Meh, I'm not gonna race it anyway, still looking for an AWD for that.

No, all I want is to know that my car is running properly. I do not want to rice it up. If I did do you think I would be bone stock? Mitsubishi everything. And I do not plan on venting, I only let my buddy drive me to the store to pick up my migraine medicine. I had a migraine at the time, so I let him drive. I live like three minutes from the store, so I let him do it. It wasn't my intention to hear the BOV, he just made it happen and I wanted to know how. I'm not that big of a n00b to destroy my tranny just for a sound, but it was nice to know that it still works. I will NOT vent my BOV until I have all of the supporting mods, I want to do things right. I just don't have the money too right now. Shit, I took my change to a coinstar to get the money to make a boost leak tester.

I didn't say that I wanted to hear it. I don't care if it's loud, quiet, or non-existant. I just wanted to know what I was doing wrong because I was never able to accomplish it. I don't want a louder one, I couldn't care less as long as I know that it's working. I've replaced a lot in this car, and I don't have the money for something else. I didn't ask how to make it louder, I asked what I was doing wrong because I never heard it. I knew I was building boost, was positive I didn't have any boost leaks, and was unsure of what the problem was. I was just driving too soft/easy.
