I've been wondering for awhile about this. Does the BOV open up at all on automatic cars during shifts, or is it only when you let off the gas that you'd hear it? The way I see it, is the only reason it would blow off during a shift is if you feather the throttle, which would be pointless. The reason I'm asking, is because I'm thinking about venting the BOV and wondering if it would cause any problems with driveability. What I'm thinkin is it'd be fun to pull in the lot at school, rev it up and let it sing, especially since I'll be one of two boosted cars in the school, the other being a GTP. I still don't have my car from the shop, so I've had many a sleepless night thinking about the car and modifying it, haha, and I just thought this one up. Thanks ahead of time,
Brandon

no the BOV does not open during shifting on an automatic. the turbo stays spooled the whole time. the only time it goes off is when you let off the gas.

Thats not true. I know for a fact mine does, not like a big long whoosh, but the shift from 2nd to 3rd if im at full boost it opens up and lets out a nice sound. Doesnt do it in first though. Just from 2nd to 3rd.

so really on an auto, the BOV is there to protect the turbo from surge after letting off the gas while driving, or when showing off to all the turbo illiterate people in my area, or just about everywhere I suppose, haha. (that sounds ricey doesn't it) I'm hoping to keep the stock 1g bov until it doesn't hold boost anymore than upgrade the most functional bov, and not give a hoot about what it sounds like. Any reccomendations on the bov that offers the best protection?

We will be coming around to take your car away from you.

Venting is bad.
