What's up guys been a while since last post.
I'm looking for a BOV! Searching around the forums found a few but most of them are really old threats (+3 years old) and as we all know there are new products out every year!
Anyway my cheap fake SSQV BOV couldn't hold 20 psi after 4 years of using it on smaller turbos as soon as I got the HX35 installed it died shortly after basically creating a huge boost leak.
I know what the good brands are but I would like to first hand experiences, I don't care much about the sound it makes but rather the size, I don't like huge BOVs sticking out the IC pipes.
So please let me know what your recommendations are!
Thanks

A 1g dodge-garage modded will hold between 20 and 30 but you loose the instant-release for lower boost levels. If you run instant-release, you lose pressure holding capability. It's a trade-off since they never were designed to hold that much.

I currently run a crushed 1g which holds 20psi, but it's response is pretty poor for sub-10psi levels and I would not recommend it at all for any level. I'm also in the market so to speak, so I'm going to watch this one.

Are you biased towards any particular flange (v-band, DSM, etc.)?

There is an alternative that allows you to keep the fast acting feature while cutting the pressure to the instant release port above a certain set of parameters utilizing the FPS controls in ECMlink. This is the setup that I ran for a short period of time and it operated flawlessly.

With that being said, the 1G BOV is not physically big enough to relieve enough pressure fast enough at 32psi (HX35 flowing 47 lb/min). While I did not ever hear any compressor surge, it would take the BOV 2-3 seconds to release the pressure. I upgraded to a Tial Q 50mm BOV that I have absolutely no complaints about and would recommend if you are going to spend any money.

I don't really care it can be any flange, I'll just cut and weld if necessary and about the 1g BOV and the type S BOVs like the greddy and NGR is that they are prone to leak cause of the gasket correct me if I'm wrong!
I was eyeballing the "turbosmart kompact" hope is big enough for the HX35

I've never heard of that I'm using DSMlink's boost control feature tho. I do agree with you I'm no sure if the 1g bov can would "that" much pressure. Money is not a problem this DSM is far from DD car so I can save up for a good BOV. Also hx35 has an anti-surge compressor cover theoretically it could be run without a BOV right?

The NGR has the same style of gasket as the original Type-S, but it is now manufactured with as much stronger material I believe. They fixed the problems with the Type S while retaining the same sound. Mine hold perfectly fine up to 30+ PSI during boost leak tests.

Good to know! I've read very positive reviews about them!

The slots in the coveer can only bypass so much air. When the throttle plate slams shut and that air has no where else to go, it can cause it to surge.

As for the 1G valve, it works great for holding any amount of boost with that configuration but its past its ability to move the air efficiently.

So! I think I have found the ideal BOV for me!
The new version of the turbosmart race-port is a 50mm BOV and very compact size seems to have better or rather faster response than the tial 50mm BOV and cost about $40 more than the tial.

Any first hand experience with this particular BOV?

I have a Greddy type rs and have had no issues. I know it's an older bov and there are better out there but I love it. As for boost I've ran it around 20psi and holds fine, no leaks. Probably could go higher. Also it sounds like a China cabinet falling from a 3 story building when I shift LOL just thought I'd throw that out there. IMO it looks great as well

Go grab a real HKS SSQV bov, those are known to be good over 30+psi (honestly to 40) and actually DO its job at the lower psi release while holding the high pressure. The 1g dodge mod is not likely to do its job at lower pressures and if the mod is messed up it ruins your bov permanently.
If your absolutely concerned about size that turbosmart is gonna be big, let alone the fact that I have not read one good review of a turbosmart bov (you can look that up for yourself).

I've had a few A eeal HKS, 1g, synapse, tial & NGR type s. The ngr has been the best love it's sound and I got tuned to be quite and noticed when I want it heard.
here its more like pick your poison everyone has different opinions. Pick what you think is good for you and your build.

I have the turbo xs hybrid type-H and it is great. When I first got the car the PO had the boost turned up to 21 on the T25 (idiot) and it held it fine. Even now that I have it turned down to the right boost (12-14 psi) it still holds boost great and it releases great at low psi.
