BOV Atmosphere--how to undo? (Previous owner installed it.)

I've had my DSM 2g GST (with 2.5" cat-back and a BOV) for 3 years now. I've had a CEL for that entire time. It's been mostly camshaft or crankshaft position sensor, but it's now switched to P0170: Fuel Trim.

The car stalls when I put the clutch in and let the RPMs drop, almost every time.

The previous owner had a BOV installed and I'm pretty sure it's set to vent to atmosphere. (It looks like a little horn, and it makes a decently loud sound, but I've heard recircs can make the noise too?) If anything, I'm guessing the stalling is indicative of venting to atmosphere.

I'm getting really tired of nearly killing myself having to feather the throttle when I put the clutch in to keep the car running.

What do I need to do, as a total newb, to recirc my BOV? Or should I just remove it entirely? Would I be better off having a mechanic do it for me? Is it difficult at all? I don't care about the noise anymore, since she's at 140,000 and I want to keep her around still, but I am oh-so-tired of this stalling issue.

Thanks for tolerating yet another BOV question. I know there are bunches on the board, but I just don't know how to CHANGE this situation, since I didn't install it to begin with.

OR just buy the 1g bov adapter like I did and throw it on there. My car holds boost up to 20 psi. The adapter cost like $20 and the bov cost around... $25 to $35.

On a stock setup...since the mass airflow sensor sits directly after the air intake filter (the only way to get air into the engine as far as I know), and before the BOV, how is it that the BOV can vent air from the intake tract that hasn't gone through the MAS?

Agreed 100%.

I was thinking that his UICP looked like a modified metal pipe, thus the welded flange recommendation. However he needs to get there, he needs to slap on a 1G BOV and call it good.

I was about to shit a brick reading that BOV/metered air BS from our newbie Evo owner.

You can use a 1G with a correct flange or you can just get a EVO IX metal bov for about $50-$75 shipped on the Evo boards. It's a direct fit on the stock intercooler pipe and it holds a decent amount of pressure. I used a generic hose from AutoZone to recirculate it back to the intake pipe. Hope that helps.
