So I recently stumbled upon an amazing deal for a complete 1G parts car, and a 1G GSX that hadn't been started in 2 years. Well.... I figured "Kay, I can use the parts car to get the other one running.. and bam! AWD Turbo time! "

Well... the GSX... after sitting for 2 years... fired right up. o_o And Moves...

It's a 90' GSX by the way. All stock.

Here are the issues I've encountered so far (In no particular order) :

1 : Drivers Front axle is trash - I have a replacement in perfect condition

2 : It was miss-firing. - Sparkplug Chambers were full of water - Changed plugs and plug wires and it ran SOOO much better

3 : The ignition wire in the steering assembly is bad. Ran a remote start to the starter to start it.

4 : Engine bay is filthy

5 : Low oil pressure. - I checked the oil, and it was barely at the bottom notch on the dipstick. I made sure to not run the car long at all with such low oil.

6 : When I pressed on the brakes, the car dropped idle about 150RPM and there was a light vibration.

7 : Grinds going into second, like, you can't get it in. I checked the shifter cables at the tranny, and the Gear select for when you shift up and down is broken. I think that'd explain why it doesn't slip into 2nd. It just acts like it's not falling all of the way in.

Other than that.. the car seems sound. The engine harness had the covering cut from it... which I'll be either replacing or rebinding. I don't see any hacking whatsoever. The hood was dented from an animal running infront of it, messing up the front bumper and lights as well (All of which I have perfect condition replacements)

What are some of the things I should do to this car to get her in dependable driving condition? This is going to be my baby.. ^^ To take care of and make bad a**! The timing belt SEEMS fresh, and they said they had it changed... but it also sat for 2 years and the car has quite a few miles on it says the dash.

I know nothing about turbos... this is my first. How should I manage that? I have a bit of cash to drop on it if needed, but I want to start with things that will help ensure her reliability.

Issue : The drain plug on the Tranny, and on the oil pan are damn near rounded off. Any hints on how to get these out? I can drop the oil pan, replace the gasket, and put my other perfect oilpan on... but the bolt on the tranny.... yeah...that big 23 sized bastard is too shallow to get a good grip on it with a breaker bar or anything.

Get a file and grind down a couple of sides of the bolt a little bit. (maybe take that 23 down to a 22-21) Then get a pair of vice grips locked on to it. If you can't get it loose by hand, then you may need to lightly (and I mean LIGHTLY) tap the vice grips with a hammer until that bolt swings loose. I just had to do the same thing to get my brake calipers off. It wasn't fun, but it worked.

if you have access to a welder you could also weld a nut to the top of the drain plug and just put a socket on that nut and turn it out. then replace plug with one from donor car.

I wish I had a welder. @_@ Would JB weld work? Lmao.

I'll try the file thing when I get home today.

So we got everything fixed, a new front end, pretty much everything is lined out. I did take pictures, however, I didn't have my laptop on me so my bud will be uploading them today for me to post here. I made sure to take a few before and after pictures.

One issue that I have to address today - I swapped the hood over from the 91 Talon, and using the hinges from the 90', the hood seems like... an inch too long. It won't line up with the locking mechanism and settles on the pop-up lights weirdly. I'm thinking either the hinges are different, or I put the front bumper on wrong. Don't see how I could have possibly done that... but whatever, I'll figure it out.

Oh, I drove it last night after getting a few wires re-run and a donut on (the passenger front has a pinhole, fixing that today. Getting new wheels all together soon). I can only drive in first... I just wanted to see if the turbo spooled at all and if the new axle held.

Soooo I punched it in first. It lurched forward, all of the wheels grabbed, the turbo spooled, and my ass clentched. Uhm...It broke all four wheels for a split second and shot off down my street.

@___@ Before I knew it I was in the gravel parking lot at the end of the road with the car purring line a lion who had been kept in a cage for 2 years and was just let out.

I. Love. This. Car.

Oh!! What is a good compression reading for my cylinders? Just curious.

Update :

The car is running smoothly and drives fine. All four wheels pull nicely as well. No odd noises. Just a few wires I need to cross reference and figure out why my ignition in the car isn't rolling over the to the starter. I can hear it barely click, but I still have to use a remote start method.

New issue : Transmission

It still will not go into 2nd, grinds in third, and will not go into neutral and back into a gear until I come to a complete stop. I originally thought that it was the transmission, but the more I read, the more I think it's my pedal assembly.

I was wanting to know if I could swap over my pedal assembly/Master Cylinder from my 91 TSI. I also will be conducting the Synchro test when I get home and pray to god that 2nd slows down the motor instead of instantly grinding.

We bled the clutch a few times, and it got a little better, 2nd now tries to catch and shudders the car a bit. I replaced the Slave Cyl as well. There is about an inch of free play in the pedal before you get reistance, then it starts getting tighter, as if it's Just starting to press against the PP about 2 inches from the floor. It never softens up.

I personally think that my adjustments are just horrible. Though I've read that the 90's don't have an adjustment rod for the Master Cyl?

$400? I'll handle the headache myself.

Better yet.....I'll see if I can confirm when they changed the belt. It seems, looks, and feel perfect. Still has the Manu markings on it. I have a brand new rebuilt head here...;P If I don't feel lazy and childish, I'll change it out today. If not, I'll drive it a bit and then change it, just to ensure that the engine is in good running order. If it breaks, I'll either just swap my other 4G63T in or swap the heads. *Shrugs*

As far as oil... I'll need to change it because it's like... black.. and LLLOOOOW. Like.. barely at the bottom notch on the dipstick low. Then again it sat forever. I'll add something cheap to it and run it and see how it goes after I clean it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm open to more.

Edit : I'm also going to go ahead and do an Intake filter upgrade, mod the air-can, and other such small things following the Tech guide. Should I just go ahead and do that since I'm tearing into things?

Its not that bad to change it i took the whole front of the engine apart in 30 mins the hardest part is making sure its in time the second hardest is that d*** alternator its like the guy who built it had small hands LOL but its not bad at all i suggest u put head studs in soon they are so good so worth it and make sure u put the washers on top of the hole first bc gettin it over the stud is very hard ## valve springs are in the way but good sounds like a great starter car

D'aww. Just confirmed that my 1-2 gear synchro is out.. and my 5th synchro is out.

=/ However!! I picked up a great deal on a freshly rebuilt trans for $325. Double Synchros, TRE internals, that sorta thing.

;D Sound like a good deal? And that price is shipped.

Have you confirmed it has the same gearing as yours? A few tuners here have found out not all trans are created equal.. or the same. XD

I actually went with a rebuilt trans. >_> There were a few hitches with that TRE one.

One good thing though - I found ARP L19's in my Parts Car.. xD

One Bad thing - The drive to Kansas City from where I live was HELL.
