Ok I have a few questions for you guys and gals. I Searched but couldn't find the answers I was looking for.

1) I have a chance to buy some 550's for really cheap, can I run them with the stock fuel pump and turbo, or will they cause the car to run rich?

2) What are the limits of the stock 14b turbo in terms of boost pressure?

3) Is it safe to run 18 psi or so with 550's and a better fuel pump?

4) If I got with a full turbo back exhaust is it possible that I will encounter boost creep?

Thanx
Lucky

1) Yes, you can run them on the stock pump and a 14b turbo, but to get the most out of your set-up I'd go with a 190 pump ($90). You will run quite rich until you have some means of compensating/tuning for the 550s (afc, link, MAFT)

2) I've heard many different answers for this one, people tend to have their own opinions on what would be the optimum boost level to get the best performance out of the turbo. Try looking in the 1/4 mile section on this forum and find some of the faster people running a 14b and check out their profiles. You could even PM them and ask them a few questions about what boost they were running when they ran xx.xx time.

3) Running 18 psi with a 190 pump and 550s is a good combo, but you will more than likely be running into cooling issues. The next thing to add to that would be an upgraded intercooler, or you will have problems with knock. You also will NEED fuel control.

4) It really depends on your set-up. I had an e16g on a stock 7 bolt with a catback exhaust, no creep.

e16g on a stock 7 bolt with a tubular o2 housing and cat back exhaust, no creep

e16g on a built 6-bolt with 9:1 compression and stock DP, no cat, 3'' exhaust, no creep

e16g on a built 6-bolt with 9:1 compression and 3'' o2 eliminator turbo-back exhaust, very bad creep.

If you start creeping, take the turbo off and do some porting around the wastegate hole. Also when you have it off, you could grind a bit around the flapper itself so it opens a full 90*.

There are always variables to any set-up that can change your results, but there are usually solutions to all of them. The best way is to slowly start changing things and address each problem that comes up until it is fixed, them move on to the next.

And yes all those questions that were answered can be found by the search button.
If you would like I can link you some threads to prove it.
Isn't this exactly the kind of respones dad was complaining about in the other thread which I strongly agrees with? ;) Next time, link him to the threads.

I agree with what blackGSX2g said except I strongly suggest that you do not install the 550s until you have a tuning device.

I never recommended running the 550s without control, I just stated what the outcome would be. :thumb:

I am aware that the 14b is good to NO MORE than 18 PSi. It is a relativaly dependable and good output turbo.

is having my car run rich for a month or so really that bad for it? beside damaging the plugs and maybe hurting the o2 sensors.

TOO rich can actually cause detonation sometimes too, which could be damaging. Not to mention your gas milage will be CRAP. Just don't install the injectors until you can control them.

How about fuel dripping down the cylinder walls and thinning out the oil. ;) Why are you so set on installing the 550s without a tuning device? It's not like it will make you faster, rather it will probably make you slower.

You can probably pick up a set of used ones for $60, the gas you'll save is more than enough to cover that.

Yea, I would reccomend just picking up a temporary set of 450s till you get your stuff in order. As Oldman stated, you can easily find sets for $60 and then when you are done with them you can turn around and sell them for the same price. In fact, I've got an extra set of 450s you can buy if you'd like.

thanx for all the help guys, i just borrowed a set of 450's from a friend until i get my Safc. :thumb:
