i noticed i have alot of pressure comming out of the oil cap..it also spits out oil from the breather.. i replaved the pcv valve and nothing changed. it also has alot of oil comming out somewere and sitting on the valve cover and spraying..i replaced the cap as well and nothing changed..any help would be greatly appriciated!! i am completly stock

For the oil cap if you still have the other cap take the o ring off and double up on the new one, it helped with my car, but so did setting up a catch can to the intake manifold and intake pre turbo

im not sure on the compressioon.. doesnt seem like i have any power loss execpt my wot issue.{ brick wall at 4.5 rpm} car drives just fine otherwise. getting really irritating on the issues it has. looks like im going to spend tons of money at the shop. i read tightning the valve cover too tight can crack it.. putting some rtv sealtent will fix the oil getting thru and up on the cover... but im not sure as to were to apply the sealent??

i also noticed 2 small holes on the valve cover... this could possibly be were the oil is seeping through on the vc... but why would this happen??

Most likely fuel cut.

You don't need a bunch of RTV on the VC or gasket. Get a good VC, new felpro gasket set, and use just a very small amount of RTV in the corner of each hump on the head, and a small amount across the half-moon plug. That's it.

These are weep holes for water to drain out of the center galley. They shouldn't have oil coming from them.

thanks calan.. i understand how the pcv works but im confused as too why i have pressure blowing out of the cap and breather filter.. i replaced the oil cap and pcv valve thinking that was the cause of the oil getting on the cover.. i just took it for a spin and it doesnt seem like its coming from the cap more from that tiny hole on the right side of the cover.. the cap seals nice and tight.

i know i took the oily residued filter off and put the hose back on it.. the reason i did put the filter on it was because i didnt want oily crap getting through the turbo... mabey i have worn out rings and thats causing all my issues... you have been great help. hopfully a ring job wont make me broke. as i have valves seals that are bad also... i love my car i got it from a old guy one owner and never drove in winter, thinking issues would be minimal....could be worse though i guess. he also drove in on regular gas... not premium, mabey that caused seals to go bad quicker?

If you replaced with a part store pcv valve thats a problem. Breather filter is a bad idea. You should re-route to maf with a calan catch can LOL.

Its just oil. Its not going to kill your turbo. Ring job is not that hard. But at a shop you will get charged around 8 hours.

Do a compression test before you just assume rings are the problem. I said they could cause this problem, not that its yours

How long have you had it?

The car is probably due for some full maintenance; belts, fluids, hoses, t-belt and components, plugs and plug wires, etc.

A leak-down test wouldn't hurt either.

its a 1990 one previous ownner. older guy drove weekends always stored in winter.140xxx miles, said he replaced the belt and water pump every 60k miles. i have had it 1 month now.. i have put accell 8mm wires, denso irridium plugs gaped to .028, new pcv, oil cap. its a 22 year old car i know its going to need a few things. ill get her in a shop see what wrong with her and fix it my self..{hopfully} also i noticed since i changed the oil cap and pcv the oil filter is now leaking..does that mean those sealed it better and now the pressure is going to the oil filtter? i have a pic of all the oil that gets collected in the vc{with one pull} if that means anything

Sounds like you are off to a good start. Honestly, you are probably better off reading everything you can here and doing it yourself, rather than paying a shop to tell you what's wrong...especially if they don't specialize in DSMs. If you do need someone else to look things over, try to find a knowledgeable DSMer in your area that will meet up and look things over for you. I'm not going to drop any names, but WI is pretty well stocked when it comes to good DSM people. ;)

also i noticed since i changed the oil cap and pcv the oil filter is now leaking..does that mean those sealed it better and now the pressure is going to the oil filtter?

Anything is possible, but if you have enough CC pressure to be leaking from the oil filter, you have bigger problems.

Get the compression and leak-down test done, and just start knocking things out one at a time.

thanks agian calan. ill start with a blt and go from there. it is my dd so hopfully nothing major is wrong with her. i aslo took her on a 600 mile road trip and didnt notice anything different that when i bnought it. wen i got home and replaced cap and pcv is wen it was noticibly worse.

Had the same problem with the pressure issue and ended up taking the VC and having it done with -8AN fitting to run a custom catch can set up.. Also, I am in the process of changing out the valve stem seals as well. As for the oil leaking on the VC it could be a bad gasket or the pressure pushing the VC up and shooting oil everywhere. That is part of what was going on on my car. May look into the catch can set up to help pull the pressure out of the crankcase and see if that helps. Also, as far as the rings go, I have a rebuilt engine that was done by the PO and has 14,5xx miles on it.. Proper maintenance is the key to these car as the others have posted. Let us know what you find out.

ok i found out why oil was collecting on the valve cover.. i had a tiny hairline crack on the right side of the vc. for now i just put some trv on it....not leaking anymore... i will look into a catch can......any ideas as far as budget goes for one of them? i also pulled out my plugs and cyl 3, and 4 plugs were melted away.....i will post a pic of it in a min... wondering why that is happeing now?

As for the "melted" plug, you could possibly have a lean condition due to a bad fuel injector. Posting pics will allow others to help out and give you some guidance so you hopefully won't need to take it to a shop and over pay for something you or a local can fix for much less.

The oil filter housing leak I would check the water line to make sure its not lose. Common problem I found from reading here. I actually deleted mine and plan to add an oil cooler in its place. So its possible it vibrated loose and seems its related to other issues. Won't hurt to check first.

so new injectors would solve my issue with spark plugs melting..? i put ngk 6's in and a week went by and cyl one plug melted. so i but denso irridium ones in and 4 weeks went by and cy 3 and 4 plugs did the same... they all were gaped to .028

i have been reading about people having issues with cracked or melting spark plugs after 5k miles, i find it strange mine lasted mabey 1k miles....anyone have any information for me?
