what color interior paint will best match black oem vinyl interior

Black landau
Satin black
Graphite

The previous owner painted everything gloss black and Iam reinstalling original black interior. The rest that don’t come black I will use his painted plastics, but I want to strip the gloss black and paint it a more natural black. I have a black carpet, trunk carpet, and headliner. With out spending 60$ for all three colors and trying out each one, have one of you found the best color to match oem black plastic?

As a person who used many cans of Sem coat and Colorbond it has been my experience that Satin Black is the color most preferred. I speak of 40 years in the trade of auto upholstery.
Here is something you can do. Open the link I have provided and enter your Vin number and it will give you the colors you need to order. You may need to call their toll free number but it is my best guess that you will want Satin Black.

My door panels were black and gray, but I wanted them all black. So, I went to my local upholstery guy to see see if he would recover the vinyl portions. He didn't want to but he recommended Color Bond. I bought a few cans of Color Bond #622 Trim Black, disassembled my door panels and sprayed the vinyl portions. They came out great and the color was spot on!

99rsfwd I have the same panels with grey leather. Iam going to copy you to the T yours look awesome. Sadly I hate spray painting car parts but Iam respaying what someone already painted. so I don’t feel as bad. I have three sets of door cards Iam trying to not touch incase someone needs them. Then they can help fund my build. I’ll be leaving all my oem black panels unpainted this why I need the closest color to original.

No one has mentioned the one step before you paint your panels. It goes without saying you should wash them down but there is an activator that will prompt better adhering of the color bond. You don't have to do this but it helps in rough areas like kick panels where your feet may scrap against the surface...

I disassembled them fully, and I cleaned the vinyl with brake cleaner. Don't judge me it worked LOL.
If you have any questions just pm me!
Not my best choice for a pre-clean but if it worked for you that's great. Brake cleaner would surely get any dirt and grease/ oils that would ruin the outcome of your paint job.:hellyeah: I will admit that I tried lacquer thinners one time and that my friend is a no no. I melted the vinyl and had to replace the door card...Lucky for me I was able to find one of the same color. We win some and we lose some.

Just so I'm clear I only painted the vinyl pieces. And when I say I disassembled them I mean I separated ALL the plastic from the vinyl. Some sets of door panels are screwed together while others are plastic welded together. Mine were the welded version. I cut the head off of the weld with a razor blade, and screwed them back together when finished. I hope this makes sense

These kicks, door panels, and the rear panels were all Sem coated in a sand color. I had to go a bit darker than the original color because of some marks in the panel.
