Hey Guys,

Just was curious, what is the biggest turbo I can get online that comes with a kit for a 1995 Mitsubishi eclipse RS. I really don't want to get rid of my AC. Anyone have any information and where I can buy it online?

Let me know.

Thanks

I don't think N/T turbo kits have big enough turbos to remove the AC Fan.

If you custom make your own turbo setup with a big turbo then you might need to get rid off the AC Fan and buy a Slim fan. But because you are looking for a N/T turbo kit i'm almost positive that they made them to fit your stock AC Fan.

Hahn racecraft makes turbo kits for N/T models.

What ^^^ said.

If you want to get the biggest turbo, remember that you just can't throw in a big turbo and expect everything to work. You need supporting mods.

Also, if you are looking for insane power, you might want to find a GST or GSX instead of putting a turbo on a N/T.

These forums have rules against telling people to sell their car and buy a turbo model - let's stick to his question here... :|

Finding the right turbo for any application takes extensive knowledge of turbo systems. There are several factors one must consider including air flow, optimal operating pressure, exhaust flow, pipe size, etc. So if you think the biggest turbo you can get your hands on will give you the most power - you need reconsider your plans.

For a small 2.0L engine like the 420A, I wouldn't recommend putting anything much larger than a Mitsubishi 20G (or equivalent) on the car. Lag is bad enough with that turbo.

If you're just thinking about physical size, without regards to performance, then there are a few Holset turbos (think diesel tractor trailers) I've seen around at work that you can cram in there. :sneaky:

Really? Where? I don't see where it states in the forum that you can't tell people to sell their car and get a turbo model. I'm sure many people have done it, so I don't see why it would be against the forum rules. If you know something that I don't, please let me know. :thumb:

xxpedrozxx - No, the TSI does not come with a T25 BB turbo. There are no stock DSM ball bearing DSM turbos.

Either one of the kits above will work, but the SBR intercooled kit with fuel upgrade ($36xx) seems more complete than the Star Kit.

The Slowboy Racing kit is not as comprehensive as other kits available - especially the Hahn kit.

Not to knock SBR or anything, I think they've made a valiant effort here, but there is still room for upgrades (or at least areas where they could cut costs to bring down the final price).

The main thing is the fuel system, which is completely lacking, unless you "upgrade" that is. They include a Walbro 255, S-AFC II, and 550cc injectors. For an engine with stock internals, neither the S-AFC nor 550's are necessary. Many people in the N/T forums debate whether or not the S-AFC is ever necessary throughout the stages of modification. Besides all that, it's still lacking, because you'll need some type of rising rate FPR like the Vortech 12:1 fuel management unit (FMU).

So you've already spent close to $3,000 on a turbo system with an "upgrade," but you still have more to buy... that's just not my idea of a kit.

Other than that, the IC piping is a little convoluted (taking into consideration that it will need to pass through the PS and AC plumbing for that side-to-side configuration).

SBR is a great company, but the 420A just isn't their forte. The kit itself isn't terrible either, but you need a working understanding of turbo systems to use and tune their system.

I've spoken to you outside of the forums and I know what your goals are. If you want quick horsepower, bolted on in a weekend, get the Stage II Hahn kit. You can spend $3K and get absolutely everything you need to turn your stock 140hp Eclipse RS into a 250hp Eclipse RS-T in an entire weekend.

Installation isn't a difficult process with any of these kits, but if you ever get stuck, Hahn is always available to offer support (in fact, they're known for their great customer support). Star kits don't offer much support at all (except from the forums, etc.), and the kits themselves are becoming harder and harder to come by.

I must sound like a Hahn salesperson here, but they developed their company around the 420A. Their 420A turbo kit wasn't just an add-on to satisfy a disenfranchised sub-group; they actually pulled their resources (including many years of experience and many more years of careful research) and put together a functional, reliable kit.

How are we supposed to know this unless it is in the forum rules?

I didn't say, sell his car and get a turbo car. He could buy another car, a turbo DSM and mod the hell out of that one.

If you compare the numbers, it is cheaper to mod a GST/GSX instead of turboing a RS. The gains are higher too.
1) 140 HP on RS to 250 HP RS-T
2) 210 HP on GSX/GSX to 300-400+ HP GST/GSX.

But if you want to turbo the RS, I'd go with either the SBR kit or the Hahn kit.

The SBR turbo kit sounds good, but pretty expensive, and dont forget, that you should have supporting modds, and not just shoot for a huge turbo. What are you power goals?Do you just want a turboed car, or are you looking to up your HP pretty high? If your not planning on going too crazy and you just want a turboed car, then I would go with the intercooled turbo kit, for the 420A.

I hate to break it to you but you are going to end up dropping a lot of money into that car for what, a maximum of eight pounds of boost? I personally think unless you are going to rebuild the engine with strong internals, that it would be a huge waste of money and of a turbo. Just something to think about. Buy a 1g to build and enjoy the gas-saving RS as a daily driver.
