Big T28 Killer good?

Well my turbo is finnaly on it's way out, ahh too bad. I'm just gonna have to go bigger. :D I've got a 2g so i'm going with the T28-Killer thanks to yours posts. Was a little nervous it wouldn't pull as much as a big 16g, but from reading seems like I'll have just as much fun. It's going on an AWD.

good choice my friend. i love mine. Just make sure not to crank up the boost too much with the stock intercooler or else you'll heat soak it, and wind up getting a whole hella lotta knock. have fun with it, you definately didn't make a bad choice on your turbo upgrade :thumb:

That brings up A good point. Which Intercooler would work best with this turbo? Im looking for a good sidemount that can handle it and not heat soak. I wish to stay away from Front mount for the sleeper effect.

My Killer is still Running strong!

Speaking of FMICs... I just finished the fabrication/install on mine this weekend. I bought the core from Street Imports group buy and picked up some mandrel bends from Summit. I haven't had a chance to test or log yet. I'm quite sure my Killer will like it a bit more then the SMIC. LOL. Here's a pic. :D

why didn't you just route the other pipe around the drivers side.Going all the way across the bumper is like the worst FMIC design ever.

I'm not trying to slam your setup. I'm just saying if you got it custom made why have 3 feet of extra piping.

because, that's how i wanted to do it. They made the turbo to go to the stock side mount location and i didn't want to f**k up my polishing job on it by chopping off the elbow just to save some air flow. also, i didn't want to have to cut any holes into my car to put the intercooler in.

can you say pressure drop?

It really isn't bad. Before the FMIC I was running 18 psi on the sidemount. With no other changes but the FMIC it only dropped to 17 psi. Not bad for the major increase in cooling. I know its complete overkill for the little Killer. But a nice ball bearing turbo will find its way under my hood by summer. ;)

There has been a dramatic change of opinion from me on my turbo. It seems the killer's turbine housing is TOO small. After just ONE run, my hot side glows BRIGHT red. I dont think that it flows enough for its own good. I'm seriously thinking about getting something bigger.

It might be because i'm pushing too much boost out of it and i'm past it's effiency on the turbine side. I'm running 20psi all the time but after races, and i pop my hood, there she is, just glowing like crazy. I thought it was cool at first till i realized what this could mean. CRACKS! I haven't looked yet but i certainly hope there are no cracks in the housing. This is my ONLY complaint on this turbo, spool-up is fantastic and so are launches, but i think the turbo craps out in top end because of the lack of flow.

how so? I'm keeping within the topic "Big T28 Killer Good?" I'm doing nothing but posting my thoughts and reviews on it

I don't think it has.. Keep going... Although I've read somewhere that they are prone to getting red hot sometimes which is normal, but I'm not 100%...

I know I'm jumping into this thread a little late in the game, but I just installed my BIG28 Killer this weekend and I love it! Spool up isn't as fast as the t-25, but when boost kicks in :D holy shyte! I like the lag since I'm fwd it's easier to launch.

I do have two suggestions. Install is a piece of cake IF you pull the radiator and fans. I can't imagine trying to get to it with the fans 1/4" from the wastegate actuator. Tight fit! Second, make sure you either replace the gaskets to the oil return pipe. On my first run after installing the killer, I left a mile long white cloud. The gasket that the return line bolts to the turbo was half there with the other half fused to the t-25 so once the pressure built up oil sprayed all over my SS DP which is no longer pretty. oh well, luckily I had some gasket material laying around so I went ahead and replace both ends and no more leaks.

Also, I had to adjust my MBC back up to 16 (for now until I get 550s and a FMIC) and on one run boosted over 20 psi! It was fun as shyte until looked over and saw my needle buried. oops.

One last thing which is a little off topic. I installed my EGT gauge while I had the turbo off and as I was driving back from the shop I use (an hour away) I noticed that while doing 70 mph at 3000 rpm my egts hovered at 1450... My O2 sensor seems fine, I couldn't get the old one out of the housing for the life of me, cycles nice and fast... at least that is what my S-AFC II says. This is with the cruise on. When I got on it, egts cruised up to 1600 in a hurry. I know I need to tune it, but I'm not going to waste too much time on it until I get my 550s in.

All in all, my first impressions of the killer are GREAT! This thing pulls like a raped ape compared to the t-2small and this is only at 16 psi, I can't wait to crank it up to 18 or 19 and see how she pulls. The BIG28 Killer is definately worth the $$$ for thrills and ease of install. Half a day and you're out boostin'

I'll let ya'll know more when I get this thing dialed in, but for now... I'm in love :D

***sorry for the long post***

Dont you think that if it gets red hot, that its not a good thing. I love the t28killer and was probably the turbo i was going to get around summer time but, it heating up like that has got me worried. Can a supra smic handle that or would a nice front mount be needed?

This thread is nearly 20 years old.
"good turbo" is too vague as we don't know what you're doing with the car. This might help.

Please start a new thread on your own and fill out a profile.
Objectively does a t28 flow more air? yes.
Tell us the goals for the car or we will help you establish some goals and go from there. If this is your first mod you would be better suited looking at other things first.
Turbo is not the first mod. Above all else maintenance first. Tell us about the car.
