Hey I want to drop my Big16g in now for so long, but i was saving up money for ACT 2100 for my FWD GST, but I don't want to wait anymore, just wondering if my stock clutch from like a Murray's can handle it, I also am running a stock SMIC for now with it if i do install it, if that affects anything, but basically if i drop this in, is my stock clutch okay for it for like the next 6 months? i have the following when i drop this in,,,,,

Ported Big16G
Ported 2g Exhaust mani
Ported Evo iii o2 Housing
3" Turboback
New PTE 550cc
New Walbro 255 HP FP..maybe trade for 190? b kuz i dont plan on uprading or AFPR..
NGK plugs and wires
Apexi Air Filter
Injen Intake Pipe
Greddy UIP and LIP
Greddy S BOV
Stock SMIC (looking for upgrade very soon)
Apexi AFC
and gauges.........STOCK CLUTCH

I had a very similar setup (FP BT28), and the stock clutch held 17 PSI with 95,000 miles on her. Unfortantly 20 PSI and 110 octane made her go to shit in one night, thats when I got the 2100 PP and feramic disk with ACT flywheel. The FWD is alot easier on the clutchs. a friend went 12.0 on a stock 2G FWD pressure plate, just a feramic disk, which I hate mine and wouldnt recommend it to anyone. I am going to go Exedy Carbon set up this next time around and a bigger turbo, 60-1 or 56 trim.

So yes it might hold depending your driving style, but a upgrade should not be too far away.

I dont know for sure yet, but it seems like the stock clutch is doing pretty dang good for me. it's actually surprised me. I have an EVOIII with all the supporting mods, and the stock clutch has held up to a lot of abuse... I can ride out the clutch on an awd launch, and it just grips and slips the tires... it'll smoke the tires if i rev it up and dump it. it feels strong, but i dont know for how long. i did all the upgrades a few months ago. The only thing that i think will really kill it, is not letting it cool down between runs, or launches. especially if you slip it out. once it gets hot, you need to let it cool down. but on a FWD, i think that the tires would spin a lot easier, so that might help on clutch life.
Anyway, hope that helps.

if you don't know how to drive stick that well (if you're hard on your clutch) then ya, your clutch will go to shit the first time you get on it. at least its not an AWD tho, it'd be even harder on the poor thing. i'd suggest waiting because the slightest slipup and you will smoke a stock clutch quicker than your dad sexed up your mom!

not true.. dustyb you shouldnt talk if you dont know what your talking about..
the stock clutch is fine.. but sure it will wear the pressure plate faster as for a
aftermarket act kit it will not.. i bought my talon with a b16g and all fuel mods
and alot of porting bringing close to 310whp.. and it still has the stock clutch/pressure plate/disc from 85,000 miles ago, but its slipping horribly now in 3rd gear on up..
but yes a stock clutch will handle 300whp no problem..

like i said before, if you don't know HOW to drive a stick that well, then you're going to burn the clutch out pretty quick. hell

maybe so maybe not depends... i been driven stick for a while so it comes second nature to me and i tend to race alot so i really dont know.. i do agree people that slam it into gear just to cut the tires loose cuz they think there getting somewere from it ya they will blow a stock clutch right up

okay cool, thanks for all info, well i do like to have highway runs....alot...LOL well imma drop this baby in now for sure hopefully by next weekend....thanks alot..looks like it could be done muahahaha....jw though...stock SMIC?...anyone reccomend a bigger smic?...b kuz like a ACT,,, i cant afford a FMIC...RIGHT NOW......or is my SMIC good enough?...for at least 15-19 psi?

I wouldnt just save up for a spearco. You can keep your urbo and your side mount but i wouldnt boost over 13 psi ...its not worth the concequences.

The SMIC becomes inneficient around 280 whp or so, correct?

My last talon had every single thing in the DSMtuners stage 1 list. Which is about 300whp.

I still had the stock clutch.

Drove it till I skipped timing, which was 15,000 miles later. No change. then again, i dont drag race or ever launch the car.

i had a 90 gsx with pretty much the same setup you have, only i had no afc, 510's and the big 16g running 18psi. My stock clutch was fine for daily driving, but after you got on it a good couple times you could feel it start to slip just a little bit, i would suggest upgrading it.

hmmmm well i will in spring...for now since winter is coming....i wont be pushing it for the whole winter anyways, kuz i cant...so i just want to put this in and have a good few weeks at play8ing with it hahah before snow/rain hits...not to bring this thread to another direction.......with my setup how much hp am i lookin at..with my stocker and with my big16g later?......anybody can tell me ,,,i do plan on dynoing it at AMS King of dyno event comin up hehehhe.. =)

well to hold me over i got a vent cut in my hood so the air goes right to the intake from my hood im doing fine with the SMIC... but im going to upgrade soon but not yet and i run 19psi.. youll open alot of power up if you get a FMIC tho.. the SMIC isnt that great

not much considering i looked at your mod list and i dont see a bigger fuel pump or rewired pump or even injectors anywhere so how are you running with a b16g and no fuel mods? tell me whats all done then ill let you know ... but if your running on a b16g with stock fuel mods your ####ed your not gonna run for shit

LOL nevermind i see your mod list above... well depends id say with those mods maybe
230whp or so if its tuned up bout 270-80 at crank id say .. port your head and get some more stuff done and youll get over 300 eprom the ecu..

You don't have a 3" turbo back..... liar......

guys, keep in mind, his clutch is stock at 80k miles, slipptidy doo dah

LOL ya im sure it does slip... i know mine does and im at 84k.. why wouldnt he have a turboback exhaust wtf is so special about that? LOL

Man that looks like a pretty clean job you did on the hood :thumb:

Do you have any idea where it came from masta? Was it a seperate hood? or is it a modified stocker.
Can ya tell if its fiberglass or sheetmetal?

its a modified stocker, i can get you detailed pictures of underneith where most of the work was fabricated if you like email me at [email protected] or contact me on AOL and i will talk with you.
